ATTENTION POWER REVENGE SELF-CONFIDENCE

3 Types of Discipline 1. PREVENTATIVE DISCIPLINE - This refers to the strategies that teachers use to prevent misbehavior. 2. SUPPORTIVE DISCIPLINE - This is use to help students gain back their self-control and to lead the students back in the right direction if they begin to show signs of misbehavior. 3. CORRECTIVE DISCIPLINE - This involves the implementation of consequences or punishments for students that have misbehaved or broken the rules of the classroom discipline policy. STRATEGIES FOR POSITIVE DISCIPLINE TO STUDENTS WITH BEHAVIOR DISORDERS

1. A teacher should be patient, sensitive, a good listener, fair and consistent in his treatment of students with behavioral disorders. 2. Treat the student with the behavioral disorder as an individual which is deserving of respect and consideration. 3. Provide encouragement. 4. Reward more than you punish, in order to build self-esteem. 5. Praise immediately at all good behavior and performance. 6. Encourage others to be friendly with students who have emotional disorders. 7. Monitor the student’s self-esteem. Assist in modification as needed. 8. Do not expect students with behavioral disorders to have immediate success; work for improvement on an overall basis. 9. Expose students with behavioral disorders to other students who demonstrate the appropriate behavior. 10. In group activities, acknowledge the contributions of the student with a behavioral disorder. 11. Enforce classroom rules consistently. 12. Make sure the discipline fits the “crime”, without harshness. 13. Avoid public verbal confrontations with students. Arrange a private talk. 14. Always give students your “magic touch”; ( a tap on his shoulder, a hug, etc.) 15. Be compassionate. Mistake in Responding to Misbehavior – Often, our solution to misbehavior in the classroom is to react to behavior personally rather than approach the problem professionally. Responses that usually get negative results: 1. Reacting emotionally by being angry or making hollow threats. 2. Handing out a punishment that is out of proportion to the offense. 3. Reacting to misbehavior publicly. 4. Reacting to a small incidence that often resolves itself. 5. Making an accusation without the facts to back it up.
