BORNEO Indonesian art gallery WAYANG BEBER Beber means to show, to roll out. In wayang Beber, long lengths of textile or bark paper are used on which the sequence of painted wayang scenes is depicted. During the recital story, these paintings are slowly unfurled from a pole, and rolled up again on another pole, thus showing the various scenes to the audience. This rare type of wayang is performed in remote areas of central Java during cleansing rituals.
