About ISABS Indian Society for Applied Behavioural Science (ISABS) is a national, non-profit, voluntary, professional organisation founded by a group of behavioural scientists engaged in applying their knowledge and skills for the well-being of persons and organisations. ISABS programs focus on human processes and aim at helping people to understand themselves better and discover more creative and satisfying ways of relating, working and living. More information on ISABS is available on the official Web site http://www.isabs.org/ and more information on ISABS Kolkata Region can be viewed at http://isabscal.blogspot.com/ ISABS also offers programmes to develop professionals, capable of facilitating such experience-based learning in organisational and social contexts. Apart from the well-known Human Process Laboratories and Professional Development Programme (PDP), ISABS also offers, in its regional and national events, theme-based laboratories in areas such as Gender, Values, Institutionbuilding, Personal Effectiveness, Extension Motivation, etc. ISABS’ Professional Members work as independent consultants, trainers, counsellors, academicians, training managers, personnel and human resource development managers in industrial and non-industrial organisations, and as community change agents. ISABS was registered in January 1972 as a professional body under the Societies Registration Act of 1860. Over the past 35 years, ISABS membership has grown considerably. Most of its growth has been brought about through its Professional Development Programme (PDP). ISABS Kolkata Region commenced activities in 1991, and has organised Human Process Laboratories and other experiential programs in Kolkata, Durgapur, Bhubaneswar, and Jamshedpur.
ISABS Methodology ISABS utilises group and experience-based learning as its main training method. Participating, experiencing, reflecting, hypothesising, conceptualising and experimenting rather than lectures or presentations are the chief ingredients in this process of learning.
Human Process Laboratories In a human process laboratory, a group of around 8 to 12 participants work together along with a facilitator to discover more about themselves, their strengths, their styles, their interpersonal and group interactions, how they perceive and are perceived by others. While this is the primary task, there is no pre-determined agenda and the group uses the “here and now” experience to derive this learning. The facilitator helps to create a climate for such learning, in which participants find one another as resources. There are also some large group sessions where members from all the laboratory groups are invited to participate.
