SLC Map This 130 year old adobe white stucco, two cable pioneer home, just across the street from the Brigham Young Home, was built by Anthony W. Ivins and is one of the original homes of St. George. The 4.8 kW system mounted on the garage provides more than enough energy for the needs of the Gardners, and they enjoy extremely favorable utility bills.
#35 - Donaldson Home - 852 E 930 S Circle, St George Solar PV, Grid-Tie, Net Meter, Other Directions: 700 South to 900 East. Turn right from 900 East onto 930 South Circle. Home is on the left of the cul-de-sac
The Donaldson family installed this 3 kW solar PV system to supply some of their home energy needs. They also made their home energy efficient, with ceiling insulation (R51 blown-in), wall insulation (R23 blown-in plus foam with reflective backing – net is approximately R27), an efficient A/C unit (SEER 16), and Low E Windows. With energy efficiency and renewable energy, the Donaldson family has reduced their power bills and overall energy footprint.

Equipment: 30—Shell 175W modules, Xantrex 5 kW inverter
Equipment: Xantrex Inverters, Trojan Batteries
This is a 32KW off-grid PV with 92 battery backup. Largest privately owned PV system in the state. Battery and inverter buildings are heated with solar hot water. Various PV systems on property for water pumping as well. Solar offsets $65,000 of diesel per year.
Installer: Gardner Alt. Energy—p.4 Tracy Aviary is harvesting the sun to light up their Australian lorikeets, tropical flamingos, and the stars of the bird show. 30 Photovoltaic solar collectors (5 kW) grace 450 square feet of the roof of the lorikeets' winter digs, and will produce around 8,000 kWh of electricity per year. This project was made possible with a grant from Rocky Mountain Power's Blue Sky Renewable Energy Program.
City of St. George Net Metering Incentive Program The City of St. George Energy Services Department has implemented a net metering program that provides a rebate to customers who install solar photovoltaic systems on their homes or businesses. Rebate amounts vary for residential and commercial customers. These rebates are in addition to applicable tax credits. Residential customers
$2,000 per installed kW up to 3 kW
Commercial customers
$2,000 per installed kW up to 10 kW
Customer participating in this program will be billed the difference or “net” of the total amount of energy needed and the amount the system generates. For more information, visit: http://www.sgcity.org/wp/power/NetMeteringPolicy.pdf. For more information on this program or any other programs offered by the City of St. George Energy Services Department, please contact René Fleming at
[email protected].

Equipment: 42 Evergreen 190W Modules, 2 Fronius IG4000 Inverters. Installer: Gardner Alt. Energy—p.4 This 8 kilowatt solar PV system was made possible with a grant from the Blue Sky Renewable Energy Program. The panels produce enough electricity to power the equivalent of almost three typical Utah homes and will keep 14.7 tons of carbon dioxide out of the air each year equivalent to removing three cars from the road each year. The project is part of Westminster’s larger effort to become a leader in environmental sustainability and will serve as a vital education tool for students, faculty, and the community.

The site is a working alpaca and Icelandic sheep ranch. The Weber River runs along the back of the property. It is also the home of dogs, cats, chickens, guineas, peacocks and one llama. The ranch is a "work in progress" Utah Power stated that they would require $80,000 ($60,000 in cash up front) to provide electricity since the ranch was 1.25 miles from the closest power pole.
