1. COMEDK The Karnataka Private Medical & Dental Colleges Association, in their endeavour to offer an effective, fair and objective testing procedure to determine merit of students wanting to seek admissions to the Member Institutions, have formed "Consortium of Medical Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka” COMEDK. The Consortium of Medical Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka (COMEDK) has been assigned the task of organising a common entrance test for the academic year 2007-2008, for candidates aspiring to pursue Post Graduate Courses in Medical and Dental studies in the state of Karnataka, in colleges run by Private Medical and Dental Colleges who are Member Institutions of the consortium. COMEDK entrance test & publication of test score and rank list will be followed by central counseling (Single window system). The details of the arrangement made will be publicised in due course on our website, http://www.comedk.org. The list of the Member Institutions who have indicated that they are participating in the COMEDK testing program, along with the courses offered by them, is published in this brochure, and also on our website http://www.comedk.org Applicants are advised to read this brochure thoroughly and familiarise themselves with the test procedures. Note: COMEDK’s web site at http://www.comedk.org contains information and current updates / alerts. This site is updated regularly. COMEDK suggests all applicants to visit it frequently for relevant information.

2. Post Graduate Medical & Dental Programs Post Graduate degree and diploma courses, in the Medical and Dental studies, for the academic year 2007-2008 is required to commence from 01/05/07. Post Graduate degree course is a 3-year full time program. Post Graduate diploma is a 2-year full time program. 3. Eligibility Criteria Degree / Diploma Programs: Applicants must meet all requirements stipulated by MCI / DCI. Accordingly, they should have successfully passed their M.B.B.S. / B.D.S. from an institution recognised by MCI / DCI, and must have completed or completing their internship by 30/04/07. MCI / DCI Norms: Every student, selected for admission to the Post Graduate medical / dental course in any of the medical / dental institutions in the country, shall possess recognized M.B.B.S. / B.D.S. degree or equivalent qualification and should have obtained permanent registration with the Medical Council of India / Dental Council of India, or any of the State Medical / Dental Council or should obtain the same with in one month from the date of admission, failing which the admission of the candidate shall be cancelled. Provided that in the case of a foreign national, the Medical Council of India / Dental Council of India may, on payment of the prescribed fee for the registration, grant temporary registration for the duration of the Post Graduate training restricted to the college / institution to which the applicant is admitted for the time being exclusively for Post Graduate studies; Provided further, that temporary registration to such foreign national shall be subjected to the condition that such person is duly registered as medical practitioner in his own country from which the applicant has obtained his / her basic medical / dental qualification and that his / her degree is recognized by the corresponding Council or concerned authority. As per the Post Graduate Regulation 2000 of Medical Council of India, the minimum percentage of marks in the entrance test (COMEDK PGET-2007) for eligibility for admission to Post Graduate Courses shall be 50 percent for general category candidates and 40 percent for the candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Classes (As declared by State Government of Karnataka from time to time). As specified by the Dental Council of India, the minimum percentage of marks in the entrance test (COMEDK PGET-2007) for admission to Post Graduate Dental courses shall be 50% for all the candidates (Reference: DCI. Letter No. DE 14-2004/1135 dated 05 May 2004). Rank list / Card will be prepared only for those students who are eligible for admission to Post Graduate Courses as per the Medical Council of India or Dental Council of India Regulations.

About Member Institutions Twenty-eight unaided, private Medical and Dental colleges affiliated to COMEDK, across the State of Karnataka, offer various courses in Medical and Dental studies at Post Graduate level. The courses offered at the Post Graduate level include both Degree and Diploma programs. 4.2 Total Sanctioned Intake in Member Institutions: These seats have been recognised or approved by MCI/DCI. The candidates are requested to note that the number of seats offered to candidates at the time of counseling by COMEDK will be 47% which is less than the total intake mentioned below. 5. COMEDK Post Graduate Entrance Test-2007 (COMEDK PGET-2007) COMEDK will conduct a separate entrance test for Medical and a separate entrance test for Dental Post Graduate courses called 'COMEDK PGET-2007', for candidates seeking admission to Post Graduate courses in Medical and Dental studies. The entrance test is being conducted for use by COMEDK Member Institutions only. The COMEDK entrance test is mandatory for candidates seeking admissions for the Post Graduate courses in Member Institutions. The COMEDK PGET-2007 test scores are valid only for admissions during the academic year 2007-2008.
The COMEDK PGET-2007 will be conducted only at centres in Bangalore on Sunday the 11th February 2007 The test venue will be mentioned in the candidate’s Test Admission Ticket and also on the website under every candidate’s individual login. Please re check the website for any changes / updates before leaving your hometown for the test.

5.1. Application Procedure The process involves the following stages: •

Ensure that the DD for Rs.1500/-(Rupees One Thousand Five Hundred Only), along with all the marks cards and the attempt certificate are kept ready before filling up the Online Application form. The Online application form has to be filled up properly and completely. Take a print of the filled in Application form and Date of Birth / Declaration form. The Application form is said to be complete only if it is enclosed with all the documents mentioned below and posted to COMEDK office. Checklist of documents to accompany the completed Application Form: • DD for Rs 1500/- drawn in favour of COMEDK-2007 payable at Bangalore (mention your application number on the back of DD) • Attested Photocopy of Degree Certificate • Attested Photocopy of Attempt Certificate • Attested Photocopies of All marks cards (First Year/Semester to Final Year/Semester) • COMEDK copy of Declaration in the prescribed form duly attested by the head of the institution where he/she has studied last. • Additional copy of your photograph (mention your application number on the back of photograph)
Non-refundable fee for taking COMEDK PGET-2007 and attending centralised counseling, if eligible, is Rs. 1500/- (Rupees One Thousand Five Hundred Only). DD for Rs.1500/- should be drawn in favour of COMEDK-2007, payable at Bangalore and should be enclosed with the application after recording application number on the back of DD. Brochure and application form can be availed only through COMEDK website. Applicants are directed to go through the instructions carefully before filling the application forms. Applicants are requested to send the filled-in application form at the earliest to avoid any delay. Please do not wait until the last date to send in your forms. Note: Please do note that the Photographs to be provided have to be identical, in Colour and clear, and should not be more than 6 months old. Application with smudged/tampered or hazy photograph will not be accepted. Any application received not adhering to these specifications is liable to be rejected without any clarifications and no refund would be made. The decision of the COMEDK Committee on this would be final and binding. For all future correspondence with COMEDK PGET-2007, applicants need to quote their Application Number and TAT (Test Admission Ticket) Number (if applicable).
5.2. Test Admission Tickets and Related Information Candidates appearing for COMEDK PGET-2007 will be issued a Test Admission Ticket (TAT) for identification. Candidates are required to bring the TAT and the original declaration form duly attested by the Head of the Institution where he/she has studied last, as submitted along with the application form. This is mandatory. The TATs would contain the PGET-2007 test centre assigned to the candidate. The candidates are assigned a test centre during the application processing, and no requests for change in centre would be considered. The TATs would be dispatched to the candidates at the address they mention in their application form by 02/01/2007. Change of address, if any, during the process of COMEDK PGET-2007 must be intimated through registered post / certified dispatch to COMEDK office; the responsibility for the same rests solely with the applicants, and COMEDK, is not responsible for the same. In the event of any candidate not receiving the TAT or misplacing the same, the status can be requested by calling the COMEDK Help Desk. The help desk numbers are available in this brochure. Note: Candidates not receiving the TAT on or before 05/02/2007, must contact COMEDK help desk or send e-mail to have the details of the TAT
5.3. Test and Related Information The Entrance Test COMEDK PGET-2007 is mandatory for all candidates seeking admissions to Member Institutions of COMEDK. A merit / rank list is generated based on the candidate's scores in entrance test. As part of our test process, to ensure fairness to the merited students and to eliminate fraudulent attempts, it is planned to use Biometrics (Fingerprinting) at various stages of the process and this would be done at the discretion of COMEDK. 5.3.1. Test Scheme There will be one test for PG Medical and one test for PG Dental Courses. Each test will have 180 multiple-choice questions (MCQ). • The time allotted for the test would be 180 minutes. The test will begin at 10:00am and end at 1:00pm • Candidates are required to mark their answers in an OMR (Optical Mark Reader) Answer Sheet. • Each correct answer is awarded one mark. • There will be no Negative Marking. • No Mark/s will be awarded for multiple marking (marking multiple responses) of any question. 5.3.3. Test Locations The entrance test, COMEDK PGET-2007, will be held in Bangalore only. The test will be held on the mentioned time and date in all the test centres. The details of all the test centres will be published online. Answer sheet: All answers need to be registered on an Optical Mark Reader (OMR) sheet, which is machine read and evaluated. Candidates must use only black ballpoint pen for marking their answers on the OMR sheet. Use of erasers or whiteners is not permitted. (Ref: Appendix V for format) •

OMR answer sheets will be supplied only at the examination hall. After the test is over, the answer sheet should be given back, before leaving the room. Candidates are allowed to take the candidate’s copy of the answer sheet only on completion of the test. Kindly note that the candidates must sign on their TAT and OMR answer sheets in the presence of the invigilator, after the invigilator has verified their TAT. Invigilators will also sign on the column indicating Invigilators Signature of the OMR Sheet, if not; the answer sheet will be invalid and not be considered for processing. Candidates are also required to write their names, and the question booklet number ONLY in the space provided in their OMR answer sheet. The OMR answer sheet is machine assessed and therefore it should be handled with care. If there is any doubt, please contact the test invigilator immediately. The COMEDK PGET-2007 test administration is timed. The test session is designed to be completed within 180 minutes as indicated in this brochure and no compromise will be made on the set time limits. The Chief Superintendent of the test centre is the official timekeeper. Candidates (Test takers) will not be permitted to continue the test beyond the established time limit. It is planned to use biometrics (fingerprinting) during the test session.
5.3.5. Grounds for Dismissal The COMEDK PGET-2007 test administrator is authorised to dismiss a candidate from a test session for: • Attempting to take the test for someone else • Failing to provide acceptable identification when asked for • Creating disturbance at the test venue • Giving or receiving unauthorised help • Eating or drinking during the test • Use of toilets during the test is prohibited. • Using any forbidden / unauthorised testing aids, such as personal computational devices, pagers, cell phones etc. • Leaving the test centre before the stipulated time of 15 minutes, from the start of the test. • Failing to adhere to any of the other procedures and regulations cited • Refusing to follow directions as stipulated by the invigilators etc. Failure to comply with the test procedures and regulations or with the test administrator's directions can result in COMEDK taking action/s that include, but are not limited to, barring candidates from future testing and or cancelling your test scores. If your scores are cancelled, they will not be reported to the Member Institutions / Regulating Authority, and your test fee will be forfeited. 5.4. Results Publishing All answer sheets (OMR) are machine read. Key Answers and Test scores of all the candidates will be published on the website, http://www.comedk.org. Clarifications, if any, should be sought within the dates stipulated. Subsequently the final result along with the Merit List will be published which will be binding on all candidates and no further claim would be entertained thereafter. The Final Merit / Rank List will be sent to all the Member Institutions and to regulatory authorities. Individual score / rank card will be sent to all candidates. The same will also be made available at the COMEDK website, http://www.comedk.org 5.4.1. Test Scores Publishing Answer Keys to the COMEDK PGET-2007 will be published on the website only, on 11/02/2007. Clarifications to the answer keys, if any, should be sought between 11/02/2007 to 16/02/2007 (Communications received after 16/02/2007 will not be entertained) Test scores of COMEDK PGET-2007 will be published on 19/02/2007 Clarifications to the Test Scores, if any, should be sought between 19/02/2007 to 22/02/2007. (Communications received after 22/02/2007 will not be entertained) The Final Rank list will be published on 24/02/2007 Applicants seeking any clarifications with regards to: a. Clarification with regards to the answer key/s. (Ref: Appendix I for format) b. Test scores. (Ref: Appendix II for format) have to write to COMEDK, clearly indicating the grievance and with all necessary enclosures in a prescribed format which can be downloaded from our website. Every answer key for which clarification is sought should be sent to COMEDK office by registered post along with a DD of Rs.100/- (Rupees One Hundred) per item, drawn in favour of ‘COMEDK 2007’, payable at Bangalore. Only if the clarification sought, is upheld, would the money be refunded. No further claims for clarifications will be entertained by COMEDK after the last date, as indicated above. 5.4.2. Final Merit / Rank List Publishing Any verifications / clarifications sought by the applicants will be put forth to the COMEDK’s Academic Committee for their consideration and the decision given by the committee will be final and binding on all, no further claims will be considered. The final merit / rank list is generated based on the performance in the entrance test and the same will be published on 24/02/2007 Inter-se Merit: Ties in the test scores, if any, will be resolved based on the following, in the order specified: • Total aggregate percentage scored in the M.B.B.S. / B.D.S. exams • Number of additional attempts during the course of study, i.e., M.B.B.S. / B.D.S. • The age of the candidate, the elder candidate is ranked higher than the younger candidate. In case of tie existing in all of the above situations, merit will be based on random selection. COMEDK Member Institutions will not accept any other qualification of entrance examination conducted by any other agencies to determine the inter-se merit. All candidates must note that any form of canvassing or influence exercised would result in permanent disqualification of the application without any prior notice to the applicant. http://www.comedk.org is the only official website of the consortium, COMEDK is not responsible for information available on other websites / elsewhere. 7. Biometrics Verification Candidates intending to take the Post Graduate Entrance Test 2007 may be required to undergo biometrics verification. (i) before entering the test centre, (ii) during centralised counseling for seat selection and (iii) at the college level, prior to the admission process. To ensure fairness to the merited students and to eliminate fraudulent attempts, it is planned to use Biometrics (Fingerprinting) at various stages of the process and this would be done at the discretion of COMEDK. COMEDK reserves the right to change (or) reset the Biometric Verification parameters at any time during the selection process. Any mismatch at any stage will automatically result in disqualification of the candidate and he/she will not be permitted to participate in any further process of seat selection and admission to PG course. Assistance / Facilities to candidates In order to provide timely information to the candidates about their applications, or the entrance test, or the results thereof, COMEDK has made the following arrangements: The Help desk telephone number is +91-80-41132810. The Help desk is operational from 9:30am to 6:00pm, Monday to Friday, and from 9:30am to 1:30pm on Saturdays. The Help desk is not operational on Sundays and other public holidays. The website contains all the information available in this brochure. The website contains information pertaining to the Member Institutions, the courses offered, and other details thereof. In addition, candidates have been provided with a facility to check the status of their application in the various stages of processing their application for taking the test. The candidate will have to click on the link indicating “Applicant Login” on the home page of the website. They can login to the system by entering their Application Number and their Date of Birth as mentioned in their application form. After the login is successful, the candidates will be provided with various information such as, one’s application details, latest status of their application for taking the test, the status of their Test Admission Ticket (TAT), the details of one’s test centre (address), and other alerts / information as specific to the candidate. 9. Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) Q. What is the eligibility for the courses? A. As prescribed by MCI / DCI, candidates who have passed their M.B.B.S. or B.D.S. from an institution recognised by MCI / DCI and have completed (or are expecting to complete their internship by 30/04/07) are eligible for the courses. Candidates should also meet other requirements as prescribed by MCI / DCI. Q. Is the Entrance Test open only to Karnataka students? A. No, this test is open to all the eligible students in the country. Q. I have finished my M.B.B.S. a few years ago. Am I eligible for these courses? A. You can apply for the notified courses, as long as you fulfil the basic eligibility as prescribed by MCI / DCI. Q. Is there an age limit for the courses? A. No, there is no age limit for the courses. Q. I am interested in applying for certain courses, but these are not listed in the course list provided in this brochure. A. The course list provided in this brochure is limited to only those courses offered by COMEDK Member Institutions. Q. When is the last date to apply? A. All filled-in applications must reach the office of COMEDK on or before 15th January 2007 Monday, by 5:00pm. Applications received after the stipulated date and time will be liable for rejection. Q. What is the procedure of selection? A. For the academic year 2007-2008, selection of seats for the Post Graduate courses in Member Institutions will be based on merit, taking into account the performance of the candidate in COMEDK PGET-2007. COMEDK entrance test & publication of test score and rank list will be followed by central counseling (Single window system). The details of the arrangement made will be publicised in due course on our website, http://www.comedk.org. Q. How will I know my test results? A. The results will be intimated to the candidates individually. The same will also be available on our website (http://www.comedk.org), and also sent to all Member Institutions of COMEDK. Q. If I have 5 clarifications in the answer key, then do I send a DD of Rs.100 or Rs.500? A. You have to send a DD of Rs.500. (Rs.100 per clarification) Q. Marks Obtained Please enter the total marks you have obtained in each year during the course of study in M.B.B.S. / B.D.S. Please ensure that the marks entered by you include the marks obtained in the theory and practical papers for all the subjects of the respective years. Marks obtained at the University Exam during the successful attempt should alone be entered (supporting marks card/s to be enclosed). Also mention the number of attempts you have taken to clear the respective years. Once you have filled up all the marks and the attempts year wise in the relevant columns, cross verify with the “Grand Total”. In the case of foreign students where the marking system is not prevalent and only grades are given, they may indicate the grade and should attach the authenticated grade report giving marks equivalent ranges issued by the university in which the candidate has studied. Documents in a language other than English should be accompanied by a translated English copy authenticated and notarized.
