The Tourist Angry Muscles Leg Recovery-Michael Gillan Ultra Marathon Recovery Specialist
The Baby Boomer sightseer angry muscles and aching legs Leg recovery using an environmentally friendly recovery system ‘Have adventure before dementia’ Consciously or unconsciously many baby boomers make the decision to get out there and just do it Doing it means they are willing to spend the kid’s inheritance and have fun before they reach the seniors stage and they are unable to do it anymore I am one of those (call me selfish if you will-I don’t care) who with this in mind went off last year on a world trip-where I went was to all parts of the world, but while being out there I was also doing research on aching legs and how people in other countries dealt with them It is my interest and it was to experience the different ways of legs relief that was out there-my first stop was to the 2007 Antibes (France) 6 Jour (day) event where I went to look after Jesper Olsen (around the world runner www.worldrun.org) I was hoping to learn from other massage therapists on how recovery from aching legs in a country where massage gets its name and descriptions of some of its methods-tapotement-petrissage etc. There was no one else there except moi so I finished up looking after the whole event and all the runners who had problems Next it was onto Denmark where I joined Jesper and some other runners at a training camp on the island of Mors-we spent nearly 3 weeks running there and finished up looking after their 24 hour 100 mile event and was on the road for about 20 hours My next event was looking after the Danish National long distance team at the world championships in Montreal-no luck their either on learning new techniques-everyone was using all the same techniques of working on the muscles In between these events I wandered a few other countries visiting and watching different events instead of joining in and everyone was using similar ways of working on recovery I wasn’t learning new ways of working with aching legs or leg fatigue Fortunately my trip wasn’t wasted (neither was the kid’s inheritance) because I also took time out to enjoy the sights of each city I went to-but because each city was new I did a lot of walking around them exploring them-I went to many museums, art galleries, monuments and other areas of interest I found that while doing all this walking, my legs got fatigued, and the worst place for this was in the galleries, museums and other areas where there were flat floor and I had to walk slowly and stop to look at exhibits As relief of fatigued leg muscles is my interest, I was able to look after my own legs, when I wanted to but I was able to chat to other tourists about where they were from, and find how their legs were, and those that I spoke to I showed them how I relieved my own aching legs

The Tourist Angry Muscles Leg Recovery-Michael Gillan Ultra Marathon Recovery Specialist Unfortunately their was only me and them who knew how to do it then, but there were millions of other baby boomer tourists roaming around cities and museums each year who were not getting the best of their kids inheritance because their quality of viewing was disadvantaged by aching legs They spent a good deal of their time looking for somewhere to sit rather than seeing all they had come to see-they were not having adventure before dementia-they were wasting quality adventuring time! When the tourist walks around so many monuments, museums and art galleries, the calf muscles tighten up and because they are the motors for a pumping system that takes used blood from the lower legs, the motors are not working efficiently Because very little used blood is being removed, not enough fresh blood is able to replace it so the muscles fatigue and the legs ache-sitting down in the café resting the legs is not going to help the legs recover because the used blood just sits and stagnates
When it is static, lymph fluid separates from the blood and migrates through the walls of the blood vessels, into the tissues spaces around the lower legs and ankles making them swell and of course then, the shoes do not fit too well so the feet also have problems from ill fitting shoes
What are ‘angry muscles’? Angry muscles are caused by too much use or overuse of the leg muscles-they have simply been used to the extent that the muscles and nerves in them are irritated so that it is impossible for them to cut off on resting Angry muscles can lead to aches and pains that are difficult to adjust to and can lead to loss of sleep or constant tiredness and consequent mental fatigue, which if you are in an occupation involving fast moving machinery can lead to accidents Where did the term angry muscles come from? I was working at the 2007 Antibes (France) 6 Jour event as the official masseur

The Tourist Angry Muscles Leg Recovery-Michael Gillan Ultra Marathon Recovery Specialist After 4 days of running an American athlete came to me complaining that while he was walking without too many problems his muscles were ‘angry’ he was exhausted and was having problems sleeping as the legs would not stop moving and he was having strange feelings in the muscles He had heard that Light Manual Muscle Relaxation was very gentle and thought this approach may help to calm them down so he could rest for a while and recover
These are 2 people who have just been running for 3 days around a running track in all weathers they have ‘aching angry muscles’ Where do the aching legs come in for the tourist?
Getting ready for a day of site seeing-about 60 kilometers a day
Very poor public transport service on the island of Mors-Denmark these poor guys had to run everywhere Copyright 2008 Michael Gillan

The Tourist Angry Muscles Leg Recovery-Michael Gillan Ultra Marathon Recovery Specialist Notice how flat the road is? I had to work on their legs every 40 kilometers or so because they ached so much I know the tourist will be asking themselves Where do I get the tools from to do the job of making the calf muscle pump work again? And saying but I am not very good at using tools, or I do not speak the language in the country I am in to ask for them, or even that I can’t carry any more bits and pieces in my luggage because I am already overweight with all the souvenirs I bought!
Conventional systems need massage oils, towels, massage tables and associated equipment to be used-this makes them difficult for the average person to use easily and it is this that makes them difficult to use in ultra marathon where time and space are limited
My working area at this 24 hour event consisted of the chair next to the bottles-I looked after the team and worked and slept on it If I used had used conventional methods that would have been impossible to do
Here I am giving a demonstration of leg recovery in Denmark using Light Manual Muscle Relaxation The secret to calming aching angry aching leg muscles-do not use the fingers to stimulate them even further than they already are

The Tourist Angry Muscles Leg Recovery-Michael Gillan Ultra Marathon Recovery Specialist What they say about Light Manual Muscle Relaxation
Michael’s methods of massage and blister care helped me to stay mobile throughout the race and to recover quickly afterwards. His techniques are safe and gentle. Unlike some treatments, which put the runners and walkers at risk of muscle tears or infection, Michael’s techniques are light, safe, reassuring, and highly effective. They enhance comfort and flexibility, build confidence, and promote success. This booklet will help others to learn and practice Michael’s methods. It is recommended reading for everyone who walks and runs and who wants to go further, go faster, or just to enjoy life more!!'
SANDRA BROWN 1996 Ladies 1000 Mile World Record Holder 1999 Ladies 100 mile Race walking World Record Holder “I know that your massage kept a number of competitors in the event. The cold weather of Saturday afternoon and night certainly got to many of the walkers and your prompt action had them back in the race after a short stop. In years past, that would have ended up as a non-finish; a number of walkers were able to keep going for the full 24 hours on the basis of your expert help.” Tim Ericson Secretary Australian Centurions Club 'I have known Michael Gillan for many years and have always got quick relief for my aches and pains from the stretching he performs'.

The Tourist Angry Muscles Leg Recovery-Michael Gillan Ultra Marathon Recovery Specialist Resource Box
Michael Gillan is an Ultra Marathon Recovery Specialist who has been a masseur around many ultra long distance events both in Australia and internationally since he was a student in 1993 In 1995 while working at a 6 day run, he changed the approach to recovery of the athletes from the conventional way of working on the muscles using the hands and fingers to increase muscle blood circulation, to working with the muscles and making them work on themselves The results from this changeover can be seen on the Coburg result sheet on page 5 In 1996 Michael went to the Nanango 1000 Mile 16 day event where it was tested and helped the worlds 4-5 and 11th to achieve their distances Other notable events the World Run Recovery System was tested on was World Run 1 with Jesper Olsen www.worldrun.org and the World Run 2 training camp in Denmark in 2007 How can someone with aching legs benefit?
Because the muscles are being worked with they are actually doing the work-this means that the skills needed to do the recovery after training and competition do not have to be as great or as complicated as when they are being worked on Nothing is being fixed nor is any attempt being made to repair anything All that is happening is that the body is repairing itself-we are just facilitating it’s ability to do that by increasing circulation to the muscles
Aching legs should always be checked out by a medical professional before doing anything to and with them because there are many medical reasons why they may be aching-see a physician first If you want more details on Light Manual Muscle Relaxation go to my website at http://seniors.aching-legs-relief.com/tourist_aching_leg_relief.html
