Analysis of Managerial tasks and activities of Nike 

Nike is pretty good in its organisational resources, namely, human resources, financial resources, etc.

Providing excellent service in foot wearing industry.

Organize events to remain market leader within the industry.

Entry barrier for other competitors in the industry is still very high to compete with Nike.

Planning to more emphasis on women athletics.

Planning to sponsor international universities who specializes in sports management courses and promote inter university sports events.

Ques 3. What are the forces in the general environment? Analyze the forces on the general environment of the organization you are analyzing.

The following are potential factors that could affect Nike's business decisions. Some have already begun to occur, while others are merely possibilities. Demographic: 

An aging population will result in more retirees with more free time.

Changing popularity of certain sports among various geographic regions will result in different sales of different product lines.

Socio cultural: 

General shift to a more health conscious society. 24/7 fitness centers, the increased general desire to maintain a healthy lifestyle, and the proliferation of yoga/pilates will all result in increased sales of workout apparel/equipment.

Nike has faced pressure for using sweatshops in the past. There has been news recently of factories in China having to install nets outside of their dormitories to catch workers attempting to commit suicide. Not that there is any connection to Nike, but social pressure to change manufacturing locations/processes could result in some significant challenges for Nike.

Legal/Political: 

Potential legal repercussions of manufacturing facilities (sweatshops).

Counterfeit products pose a different problem for Nike. Nike will have to work to ensure that fake Nike products are never sold widespread, and that when purchased, it becomes known that they aren't an authentic Nike product. Fake products can easily ruin the reputation of real Nike products.

Economic: 

Economic changes in the Far East could result in an increase/decrease in production costs.

Changing oil prices result in variable distribution costs.

General economic conditions will affect the sale of various product lines. While shoes/clothing are generally safer, luxury items ("wants") such as golf clubs, tennis rackets, or fitness watches are more susceptible to an economic downturn.

Technological: 

Improved manufacturing processes could result in decreased production costs.

Improved distribution methods could result in decreased distribution costs.

New or improved clothing technology/fabrics/designs could result in new product lines or divisions.

Innovations in sporting equipment would also result in new product lines.

Global: 

Increased globalization will likely result in decreased barriers to distribution.

Free trade agreements could ease/hurt international distribution or production

Analysis: - These forces directly or indirectly affect the Nike. Competition among established firms is tough. Under Armor, Adidas, Nike, Reebok, etc. all have similar products with similar features. Nike should work to continue to develop its brand and reputation. Nike is Nike. Nike also manufactures in huge quantities, and therefore has significant power over its suppliers. Buyers have little power over Nike's prices. Nike can set its prices because it knows people will pay extra for the swoosh, and even more for the Jump man logo. Substitutes is most prevalent during an economic downturn, when consumers are more conscious of purchases and may not be willing to pay $5 extra for a shirt just for the swoosh.

Ques 4. What is ethics and corporate social responsibility? Ethics: 

Ethics are moral values and guidelines of a business on which is based on the notion of what is wrong or right.

Moreover, business persons are also affected by their managers and seniors when they make business decisions and sometimes they got pressurized to behave unethically when seeking to make profits.

Corporate social responsibilities: 

Corporate social responsibilities are referring to assess and take responsibility of the company effects on the environment and on social welfare.

This is also including short term costs that do not provide immediate profit to a company, but they promote positive social and environment change

Ques. 5 Analyze the code of ethics and corporate social responsibility approach of the company you are analyzing. An Organisation may be defined as a group of peoples who worked together in an organisational way to achieve to their goals and objectives of the firm. Nike has a code of ethics and corporate social responsibility approach for their all employees working in a company. CODE OF ETHICS: 1) Employment is voluntary The temporary workers do not utilize the constrained work, jail work, contracted work or different types of constrained labours. 2) Employees age 16 or older Contractual workers must be 16 or older or nation lawful working age. Workers under the age of 18 are not employed in unsafe conditions. 3) The workplace is healthy and safe

The contractual workers give a protected and safe work environment. The contactors have framework, maintain a strategic distance from potential dangers. SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY: 1) Nike decided to pay more attention to its CSR by donating $1 million to tsunami relief in 2004. 2) The company provides fair wages and better working conditions in its operations. 3) Established Nike foundation which supports millennium development goals. 4) Created NIKEGO to promote physical activity among youth. 5) Committed to efforts such as Hurricane Katrina Relief.
