Using the oil pastels you were given in class, complete an oil pastel drawing of a colorful still life on ONE full page in your sketchbook. Create a still life of three (3) or more simple shaped objects (nothing too complicated...candy, cups, plates, markers, colored pencils, simple shaped fruits, solid color gift bags, etc.....SIMPLE SHAPES). The colors of the objects should fall under one of the following color relationships: Warm vs. Cool Red Blue Orange Green Yellow Violet Primary Colors Red Yellow Blue
Analogous Colors right next to each other on the color wheel... Colors on the Color Wheel: (red, red-orange, orange, yelloworange, yellow, yellow-green, green, blue-green, blue, blue-violet, violet, red-violet)
Complementary Colors Red-Green Orange- Blue Yellow-Violet Secondary Colors Orange Green Violet
Things you MUST consider: Light and Shadows... Set up a light-source (flashlight, lamp, etc... to give you strong shadows and contrast) Your COMPOSITION! Aim to create a sense of VISUAL MOVEMENT by carefully choosing how you handle the SIZE, VIEW, and PLACEMENT of your objects. (Don’t just draw everything in the center of your page!) Color relationship of your BACKGROUND and how it looks with your still life colors...consider putting a piece of construction paper or colored fabric under your still life instead of just sitting it on a table. Remember, the point of this assignment is to practice mixing COLOR.
