Thanks to your most helpful hand-drawn sketches and longhand directions on refinishing, I have been able to re-assemble the fire-damaged Deardorf 8x10 view camera serial 5583. We had some correspondence on this matter about six months ago. It was a real jigsaw puzzle, and I could not have done it without your sketches. Thank you very much. I have been thoroughly impressed with the quality of your product, and if I'm ever in your area again, I'll try to make a call at your office to see the people that create this quality; it is really remarkable. I have a few more questions and need some parts that are not locally available. These questions and parts are listed separately on the enclosed sheetsso that you will have time to easily handle them. When this camera was dismantled after the fire, we made sketches and fastened the appropriate screws to the relevant sketches, doing this at Antioch, California. When there last summer, we picked up all the parts and sketches, and brought them with us on the returntrip. After I recovered from some surgery about 9 month ago, I started the repair process. To my considerable,eonsternation, 1.found that tne.scotch tape we had used to hold the screws to the skeethes had lost'its adhesiveness, and most of the screws were loose in the container ! This is the source of my problem of where the screws go. A stamp is enclosed for your reply, and if you decide to send the parts, may I suggest UPS COD since I don't knew the amount, of money involved. This screw looks like a Nr 1 machine screw although the head is small. See page 1185 Table 2 of Machinery Handbook 19th Edition.

2) How do I assemble the four flat leaf springs that hold the film holder frame to the ground glass holder ? The short leaf above or below the long leaf that has the curved ends that fit the clips with short shafts on the film holder retainer frame ?

3) R e garding the two pins on the middle of the front edLe of the base; what are they for ? These pins are 3/32" in diameter and 5/8" long with one end pointed the other end spherical. One pin is 21/32" from the front left corner, the other is 23/52" from the right corner.

Bellows Repair: 1. Remove all loose material 2. Be sure bellows is extended fully (stretched) — preferably while not in camera. 3. Fasten 2x4 or equal to bench top, sticking out far enough to hold bellows fully extended. Clamp both ends to 24.

4. Figure size of material needed, plus 1" both directions. 5. Draw with pencil area to be repaired, plus 1,7" all around. 6. Coat ETea to be renaired with Uniroyal M6130 adhesive and lc' --=:T.l'O 7. Cut rtl/kenent cover to fit nencil lines and coat it also adhesive. Let it dry, also. Drying time or less two hours.

Re-coat bellows only with 116130 adhesive and let it become very tacky. Ltarting at one end, la materiel in glue. DO T TOT PRESS ON 7ET. Be sure material lines up properly before pressing in place. If more than one surface needs to he covered, be Pure the first is rubbed down before going around the corner. (2 ) NOTE: De sure bellows remaingflet while doing this, especially lengthwise. No wrinkles between strips. 11. After you're sure of the adhesion of the first surface, begin then at the corner end go on to the rest. 12. After about an hour, take the corner of your thumb and use it as a tool to press the material into the spaces between the paper strips. CLEAR TO THE CORNERS.

13. After another half hour or more roll the surfaces down with a well paper seam roller, working from center to edges in all directions. 114. Or one hour later check all edges-seems for adhesion. If any voids, tuck In some adhesive end let it become tacky before pressing down. 15. One or two hours later wipe the excess adhesive off with a paper towel damp with M.E.K. The repaired area will tend to up a little more than the other areas, but not seriously. The most difficult area will be the corners. squeeze them tightly end be sure to have bellows folded at least over night before using. This will help to set the glue end the corners.

The total number of jobs on the 1108 is reducing, and the average job length is increasing. The product of the numbers of jobs and the average annual time/job is 14,620, 18,900, and 15,250 for 1969, 1970 and 1971 respectively. The computer related FMRS operating cost for FY-1972 consists of the fee of $415,000 to OEP, and the cost of the Computer Service Center of about $200,000. The fee to OEP in FY-1973 will be $450,000. Based on the computer hours through August 1971, the annual cost of the OEP 1108 to OT is $1580/hour. ITS is connected to the 1108 for approximately 1 1/2 hours a day at the present -

Dimensions of Folded Camera Weight

All sizes have vertical swings, front and back, 30° each side of center; horizontal swings, front and back, 20° each side of center. All swings pivot at center, except back vertical which is hinged at bottom. Shifts are accomplished by positioning of camera bed and swings. Auxilliary sliding panel in camera front provides shift vertically independent of camera bellows. All standard construction (wooden) backs except 11x14, supplied with double dividi9g boards, removable, for half or quarter sizes when desired. 8x10 and 4x5 ground glass is lined ( 1/2" squares); plain glass supplied upon request. 5x7 ground glass is supplied plain; lined at small extra cost. The revolving type backs are light tight 360° around the circle, and thus the next size larger camera is required to swing the negative diagonal. The 4x5 Special and 5x7 cameras are the same, and either camera may use both the 4x5 or 5x7 reversible type backs, but only the 4x5 in the revolving type. A 5x7 can be revolved on the 8x10 camera, and the 8x10 on the 11x14_by means of the Revolving Adapter. The 4x5 Backs designated as with Graflok Fittings incorporate the 4x5 Graflok metal back, with field lens. These are especially desirable when accessories such as roll-film or Polaroid Holders are to be used in addition to cut film holders, as the ground glass panel is easily detached and the side clamping levers hold the attachments firmly in place. The removable double dividing boards, which are supplied as standard with the reversible backs (wood), are "cut-off" boards and the smaller portions of the negative are not lenscenter. The Sliding Carriage Backs center the 1/2 section of the negative area, in the horizontal position, behind the lens, i.e. the 1/2 sections are vertical. The 8x10 to 4x5 and 8x10 to 5x7 may be reversed, but this cannot be done on the smaller camera.
