Bible Reading Mark 12:29-31 NRSV Jesus answered, “The first is, ‘Hear, O Israel: the Lord our God, the Lord is one; 30 you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ 31 The second is this, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.” 29

Music Notes Next Sunday afternoon, April 26 at 4:00 pm our Music Department will present our annual spring concert, featuring our Chancel Choir, Praise Team, and Spirit Ringers. We hope you will invite your family, neighbors and friends to join you for this beautiful musical presentation that will fill your soul!

Children’s News Now that we have shifted to a 10:30 combined service we plan to offer children’s church for K-3rd grade. This will be a worship service with a short sermon lesson and then skits and puppets and other activities. To make this work we need perhaps four additional volunteers to alternate months so that no one will miss the regular church service for long periods of time. Please prayerfully consider giving some of your time and talents to children’s ministry. VBS is coming and will be here before we know it--it is scheduled for the week of July 6-10. Start thinking of who you would like to invite--your children, grandchildren, neighbors, your children’s friends, etc. It is open to children aged 5 - 12. We always need lots of help before and during VBS--scenery construction crew, registrars, kitchen helpers, station assistants, crafters, etc. You may not know where you can best fit in, but if you call Tana to volunteer she will find the perfect place for you!

Mission Minutes We’re getting new neighbors! Metropolitan Ministries is almost complete with the construction of the Sanctuary of Hope Town Homes. These 12 brand new homes are located at Waters Ave. and I-275 on the former Calvary UMC site. They are designed as a stepping stone in the Ministries self-sufficiency program and were developed in response to the growing need for affordable housing and to foster independent living and life skills for home ownership. This is a great opportunity for SHUMC to offer a church home and Christian fellowship to new families. SHUMC’s Hospitality Committee has decided to present each of the 12 families with a Welcome Gift Basket that will include muffin tin, dish towel, potholder, oven mitt, cake mix, frosting mix and sprinkles, plus information on SHUMC opportunities /programs; directions to our church and a welcome card from Children’s ministries. Kitchen items we still need include: Cake mix (5) Cans of frosting (12) Sprinkles (10) Dish towels/potholders/oven mitts (6) If you can help provide any of these kitchen items please bring them to Diane Chadwick or Christie Hess. Our deadline to receive these items is April 26th. If you have any questions please contact Diane or Christie. It’s that time again! SHUMC’s third annual baby shower to benefit Cornerstone Family Ministries (formerly TUMC) is coming Saturday, May 2nd from 10a-12n in Allen Hall. Bring an unwrapped baby gift (most needed items are diapers, pull-ups, socks, underwear) or a financial donation to help support this important local community outreach. (Make checks payable to SHUMC and noted for CFM.) Please RSVP by calling SHUMC at 236-5931 with the number of people attending and if child care will be needed, no later than Monday, April 28th. The third Annual Baby Shower committee will meet at 7 pm tomorrow evening, April 20, at Jayne Braddy’s house. Starting Sunday, May 3rd there will be a pancake breakfast on the first Sunday of each month, from 8-8:45. Breakfast will include pancakes, sausage, scrambled eggs, orange juice, coffee or tea. Tickets will be $5 for adults and $3 for children 10 and under and may be purchased at the door. Profit will benefit SHUMC Missions. A United Methodist Volunteers in Mission (UMVIM) Work Team is being assembled for the New Methodist Seminary in Havana, Cuba during June. The approximate date is June 12-26. Leaving from Tampa, we’ll meet old friends and develop new ones as we work on the third floor of the New Seminary. On the weekend there may be an opportunity to visit local churches and the Seminary in Matanzas. For more information contact James Gee by calling (727) 599-9159 or emailing him at [email protected]. If you are considering the trip, it is urgent you let James know asap as there is paperwork for visas that needs to be prepared and submitted.

The Office Buzz Paint Your Heart Out, Tampa is always seeking houses to paint. This year’s houses have been selected, but it’s not too early to submit possible houses for next year’s event. Please see the poster on the bulletin board near the church office and pick up a card from the table. If you or someone you know could benefit from this, and they meet the criteria, please discuss it with the homeowner. If they agree to be considered for next year’s painting day then call 813-232-3200. UM Women will meet this afternoon at 3:00p in Allen Hall. The program on membership will be presented by District officers, Ginny Roebuck and Dory Williams. Let’s try for a good turn out to help greet our special guests. All ladies are always welcome to attend our UMW meetings!
