Free Project Bag with Appliqué YOU WILL NEED: Fabric: Bag Body: 3/8 yard, 45” or 54” wide; Handles and Stem Appliqué: 3/8 yard, 45” or 54” wide; Flower Appliqués: 8 1/2” x 7 1/2” Synthetic Suede Remnant Lining: 3/8 yard, 45” or 54” wide Interfacing: 1/2 yard, 36” or 45” wide SUGGESTED FABRICS: Home Decorating Fabrics, Brocade, Tapestry, Denim, Silk and Embroidered Wool; For Handles: Faux Suede NOTIONS: Approximately Fifteen 4mm Pony Beads and 8” x 3” Piece of Cardboard INSTRUCTIONS: 1. Pin INTERFACING to wrong side of each matching FABRIC section, having edges even; baste along seamlines. Note: Interfacing will not be shown in the following illustrations.

3. Turn upper edge to inside along seamline, notching out and easing in fullness as necessary; press.

4. Stitch FRONT and BACK 2 sections to lower edge of interfaced handles. Press seam toward handles.

5. Edgestitch handle along seam.

2. For handle opening, cut each HANDLE 1 along cutting line. Staystitch upper edge of each handle. Note: Uninterfaced handle sections will be used as facings. © 2007 Butterick, The McCall Pattern Company

6. Stitch one handle facing to each handle along handle opening. Trim and clip seam allowance.

10. Stitch lower edges of front and back together.

11. Fold lower corners of front and back, matching seams. Stitch between small circles.

7. Turn right side out; press. Edgestitch handle opening.

12. Stitch front and back LINING 2 sections together at sides and lower edges, leaving an opening on lower edge. 8. Stitch front and back sections together at sides. Stitch handle facings together at sides.

13. Fold lower corners of front and back lining, matching seams. Stitch between small circles.

9. EDGESTITCH upper pressed edges of handle and facing together, as shown.

keeping remainder of bag free. Press seam toward lining. Turn lining to inside; press.

18. Place Flower Center Applique 3 in center of petals, matching small circles. Tack in place.

15. Prepare APPLIQUES 3 and APPLIQUES 4. Cut pattern for remnants along cutting lines, separating title and cutting information from pieces. Pin pattern pieces to corresponding fabric remnant. Cut individual pieces. Transfer markings. 16. Pin Stem Appliqué 3 to front, matching lower small circle, as shown. Sew in center of stem and leaves using a running stitch.

19. Sew beads along edge of flower center.

20. Place cardboard through opening in lining. Sew opening.

17. Pin Flower Appliqués 4 to front, matching upper small circles and having larger petals on bottom. Tack in center.
