12. Research interests, possible project ideas and what you hope to gain from this experience (Please restrict your response to the space given below)

I have more interest in the field of Immunology and Molecular Biology. I have interest to do work, related to cancer. How the cancerous cells proliferate and what are all the basic mechanisms behind that. i) Lentinus edodes, an edible mushroom, has anticancerous property. Some natural products also contain anticancer activity. Compare to chemical substances, it minimizing the side effects. Shall we more focus on natural products. ii) How introns interfere in the proliferation of cancer cells. How we reduce the effect of introns. To identify any specialised mechanism in our body for responding the introns and how it relates to the RNA interference. iii) Human microbiome Project, may lead a way to identify more pathogens. The Sigma factors (A, B, E, F & H) is essential for surveillance and growth of Mycobacterium tuberculosis both in vitro & in vivo. These virulence 2

encoding genes are contributor of transcriptional regulator and changing lifestyle in response to environment. In σ Factor, σ A is the essential housekeeping and σ B are not essential for growth in a laboratory condition. It is required for a robust protective response to various environmental stresses. Based on the short approach, mutational strategy of sigma factors can alter the virulence nature, host parasite interaction and entire mechanism of M. tuberculosis and can be measured by DNA micro array methodology. So it will be used to identify several new potential targets for diagnosis and therapy. In the science era advanced techniques disseminate the finer resolutions, higher throughputs gave lot of insights toward research. The tools like Genetic engineering, RFLP, RAPD, PCR, Cloning and expression of gene, will give expected outcome of genomics, proteomics, metabolomics and systems biology. Based on the short introduction I am interested to know about the various techniques to improve my skills and lead my career towards research.

13. Research experience, technical background, other internships, courses, lab work, techniques exposed to and past lab experience (Please restrict your response to the space given below)

In this academic period, I had presented self study review paper under the topic of “NANOPARTICLES USED FOR BIOMEDICAL APPLICATIONS”. I was exposed to the recombinant DNA technologies like PCR, Transformation, Blotting techniques, Isolation of plasmid & Genomic DNA. I had been trained to animal tissue culture techniques under the guidance of Dr.Wilson Aruni, Associate Professor in Animal Biotechnology field, TANUVAS Chennai.
