EHS, its beyond doubt, yields not only cost effective performance but also, secures the lives of employee & guarantees safe returning home. In a complicated work environment where technological advancement introduces more and more equipment & resulted oriented instruments, warrants employee a challenge when discharging basic duties. It imposes additional responsibility on the employer to keep employee trained in work methods as and when an advent approach ( non-routine) is followed. Fully realizing the current requirements & the changes in regulation effected by the Government / Clients such as KOC / KNPC / KPPC etc. GS, continuously, updates its technique to meet the challenges imposed upon. Investing, not merely money but also, the human values to prove the efficiency of the operation in all it’s endeavor. To achieves these & other objectives set, GS modules it’s training approach and accordingly allocate the resources to get optimum out-put. —09 8 0 0 2 t r o p al Re EHS Annu Hazard identification, communication & Control: Continuous hazard identification at work-place through various technique & communicating it through STARRT meeting, Labeling as required, BBS (3NB approach), MBW (Managing By Walkaround ) technique, Structured Inspection from both the Client & Company level reduces the Risk level. Where risk levels are high, a Risk Assessment is made along with a Method Statement and a Risk reduction techniques are followed as appreciated by the Clients. Thus, GS tries to make available a work-environment where the Risks are appreciably low / minimum. Controls, inevitably are established through either Engineering or Alternative / Substitution, and or Administrative method. Emergency Plan & Evacuation: Oil & Gas Industry, particularly Refinery, work is infested with many hazards. More obvious to every one is Fire & Explosion, Release of toxic gas such as methane, H2S, BTEX etc. Its, equally, important to make the skilled labors involved in various activities to know about Emergency escape through awareness. For discharging the basic duties, the environment offers extra challenge that the workforce need to be made aware of. GS periodically, conducts Emergency drills simulating various scenario & practice it in the work-environment. Also, necessary site specific evacuation plans are made available at Project site .

EHS Training passport issued reflects the training they under-went. Not merely trainings are planned & conducted internally but also, at times to the requirement of the Client its offered through approved EHS Training centers run by third party. A few training to name are Basic First Aid, Safe Rigging, Basic Scaffold Erection, Fall protection, Confined space Entry. Also to identify the trained personnel, GS issues EHS Training Identity Card that will be made available on demand at site. Newsletter, Hand out & Safety Alerts: Every Quarter GS issues EHS Newsletter that keeps employee, clients, customer to our services informed of the EHS activities & maintains an indirect contact to reflect their aspirations. Hand-outs highlighting very important EHS issues are circulated, at times, to make employee get know about it, if so required or to reinforce a practice that’s being followed in the operation. Normally its aimed to improve EHS performance among work-force. Safety Alerts are issued as when required basis to circulate learning points, change in regulation / work practices.

Also, to increase EHS awareness among workforce, HSE Quiz program was conducted. To acknowledge individual EHS performance, “Employee of the month Award” ; To identify & motivate drivers “ Quarterly Drivers award”, Incentives to “ Best Near miss reporting”; Award for “Participation to employee involved in HSE Quiz program” are a few to mention to keep EHS first & always. EHS paper presentation & Monthly HSE presentation are few technique followed to keep HSE specialist abreast of HSE issues & knowledge and make them updated in their professional skills. —09 8 0 0 2 t r o p al Re EHS Annu A total of 08 cases reported that is analyzed in chart. Comparatively vehicle accident & its loss reduced this year. It’s a good sign. Year last , also we had an MTC & this year a similar MTC occurred. This trend needs to be arrested. Policy Review: GS HSE policy and Road Safety Policy is revised during November’08, to yield better results and to enhance performance in the year to come. GS HSE Committee: GS HSE committee gathered as scheduled in the HSE plan & deliberations were circulated and points needed action were implemented. BSC Audit & Award of Four Star: British Safety Council (external auditor) audited during 09-13 March 2008. After an extensive audit, it awarded a Four Star Rating to GS for accomplishing HSE in projects. “ Wish you a Happy & Safe New-year 2009” & work safe. B.Valavan General Manager (Projects) 30.12.2008
