Angelic Substance By Anthony J. Fejfar, B.A., J.D., Esq., Coif © Copyright 2008 by Anthony J. Fejfar Some have argued that Substance does not exist or in the alternative is evil. I argue that Substance exists and functions at the Angelic level of reality, and is ordered toward the Good.
In the Excursion by Saint Thomas Aquinas, St. Thomas specifically
states that Angels are Angelic Substances who know God and reality directly. Thomas Aquinas, The Excursion, Q. 50, A2. The Angels know God and reality through direct Act of Intuition. Since the Angels know God, Angels are ordered towards the Good as is Substance. Therefore, Substance is not evil.
