“We Are A Make Things Happen Company” says Ron Gregory

ABSOLUTE AUCTION

An Advertorial by Ray Moss

Since starting his own auction firm back in 1994, Ron Gregory has seen a lot of changes. Some good and by some standards, not so good. But, the thing remains constant since he first received his auctioneers license is, “you gotta make things happen.” Ron started “making things happen” back in 1985 when he received his auctioneers license. Selling some of everything during the early years of his career, Ron learned his craft well. “I got my real estate license in 1986. At that time I was working with veteran auctioneer Feller Brown

Saturday, August 22, 11:00 a.m.

It was a great experience and I learned a lot from Feller,” Ron said. At that time Ron had already received his auctioneers license and had experience in livestock auctions.

Best is to Come as “AuctionGreers” from page 1 Announce P l a n s F o r Q u a r t e r l y “Making Things Happen” That explains why one of his most useful Cl as s ic Car Consignment Auctions tools in physically preparing for large land auctions is his trusted mule, Cool Hand Luke.

by Ray Moss

How many times have you been flipping through the channels on the tube when you noticed one of the car auctions being broadcast? Maybe you are an avid collector. Maybe you have your own sweet ride parked in a spotless garage and you are a fan. Or, maybe you are like a lot of people who watch and wish they could have a beautiful classic of their very own. Whatever the case, classic, antique or just really hot, cars have always made us stop and stare when they drive by. I think it is a gene that is passed on at birth to many of us, we love automobiles! The love affair with polished steel, chrome and smoking tires is well documented in this “We more than doubled country and the number of con- this desire to signed autos from our own, restore first Classic Car Auc- and enjoy tion,” said Eddie Greer these Detroit beauties is evident by the dozens of car shows that happen around the state every week. If you want to get into this exciting hobby and a trip to Arizona to dump your entire finanial portfolio is not in your retirement plans, you can get started right here in Nashville. “Our Classic Car and Collectors auction is designed to cater to both the hobbyist and the addicted car enthusiast” said auctioneer Eddie Greer. Eddie Greer and Melanie Eifling make up the auction team known as “The AuctionGreers.” This auction duo just concluded the second annual Classic Car and Collectors Auction held at Auction Way in Nashville. The event is sponsored by Bill Colson Auction and Realty at their auction facility on Auction Way, just off of Dickerson Rd.

The attention to detail during restoration of this 67 Chevy Nova SS was very evident as it pulled into the lane signments to better than 40. The quality of automobiles in this sale improved vastly. We put in a lot of hard work to bring in new buyers for the second sale,” said Melanie Eifling. “We had, on site, buyers registered from Ohio, Alabama, Tennessee, Mississippi, Kentucky, and, Missouri and with the auction being simulcast via Proxibid, buyers were registered form all over the world.”

“We put a lot of effort into preparing for any auction we do,” Ron said. “ Land auctions require a lot of prep work prior to the sale date. Soil scientist, surveyors, clean up crews and more all come together to make our auctions successfull. After the surveyor lays the boundary of the property we are selling, me and Cool Hand Luke physically ride the boundary to view the topography and lay of the land to establish how to multiply the property and bring the highest dollar for our clients.” “Advertising is a key ingredient in the prep work and the success of any auction,” Ron went on to say. We have years of experience in the types of advertising that works best for whatever auction we are working on.” “Knowing how to market your customer’s property to its maximum advantage is ex -

Livestock Market, 1985 tremely important and we at Ron Gregory Realty and Auctions have learned in our years of doing business exactly how to use all means of advertising to the advantage of our customers.” Ron contributes much of the success Ron Gregory Realty and Auction, to maintaining a new level of professionalism and integrity through principles of honesty, transparency and accessibility for his clients. “Our clients have given us high marks and we work very hard to live up to these expectations. continued on next page...

The good news doesn't stop there. Word is getting out that this is a great venue to sell and with interest growing, the AuctionGreers are planning more auctions,

From mules to mansions, Ron Gregory now specializes in all types of real estate auctions. This Goodlettsville home sold for $565,000.

...”Making Things Happen” “We specialize in Absolute Auctions and encourage our clients to sell by this method,” Ron said as he went on to mention some of the many reasons “Absolute” is the way to get results: Buyers come prepared to buy. assuring a quick Ron Gregory disposal reducdropped the hammer ing long-term on this Belle Meade carrying costs, Home at $990,000 including taxes & maintenance. It gives you the assurance that the property will be sold at true market value by Exposing the property to a large number of pre-qualified prospects. Absolute, accelerates the sale and creates competition among buyers leading to an auction price that can exceed the price of a negotiated sale. It requires potential buyers to pre-qualify for financing. The seller knows exactly when the property will sell. It eliminates numerous and unscheduled showings plus it takes the seller out of the negotiation process and ensures an aggressive marketing program that increases interest and visibility. Larger Facility Offers Many New Possibilities for Music City Auction

Auctioneer Videos NOW SHOWING! NEW VIDEOS Recently Posted!!

www.americasauctionreport.com

Music City Auction’s larger auction facility in downtown Nashville, TN They are exciting changes in the Middle Tennessee auction community. Music City Auction has settled into a large facility located in downtown Nashville. 114 George L. Davis Blvd, located on the frontage road of I-40 between Broadway and Church Street, has long been home to the offices of the auction firm. And, periodically, MCA has held auctions in the 15,000 sq. ft. warehouse. Up until recently, the space had been rented and used as both an antique mall and occasional auction facility. With the loss of the tenant’s lease, auctioneer David Allen made the decision to dedicate a large portion of the space as a permanent auction site. While one side of the building will continue to house a thriving antique mall, the other side, approximately 7,000 sq. ft., will be dedicated exclusively to auctions. Mr. Allen anticipates immediate benefits. “In the past, it was necessary to work around the schedule of the tenant, as the space was often used as storage for the mall. With the decision to take over the space in a permanent sense, it will allow us a greater flexibility to conduct auctions. In the beginning, our goal is to have a least two a month.” One of the ideas that can now be realized is a “Shipshewana” style auction on a periodic basis. Mr. Allen explains, “In Shipshewana, IN there is an auction event that occurs at least once a month, where a large facility is divided up into booth space and rented to sellers of merchandise, much like a flea market.

However, instead of pricing each item for sale to the public, an auctioneer stands in the booth and sells everything in lots to the highest bidder(s). When that booth is empty, the auctioneer moves to the next booth, and so on, until all of the merchandise is sold. Because they have such a large f a c i l i t y, Auctioneer often multiDavid Allen ple auctioneers are selling at the same time in different booths. I don’t see us at that stage in the near future, but you can envision the possibilities.” Music City Auctions are a real treat to attend. You can count on finding a lot of very unique and unusual items from antique to eclectic. The one thing that you will always find is a great atmosphere and a good time. Now that David Allen has all of this new space to work with, we can expect to see some really big things coming out of The Music City...Auction that is. Look for an advertisement for a Labor Day Weekend 2-day auction in the newly re-vamped building in the next issue of AAR. Advertorial

With over 1150 lots from an array of collecting interests such as art, film, sport and music there’s something for every collector: From Brando and Bacall to Ginsberg, Harry Potter and Walt Disney - you are sure to find something to tempt, titillate or transform your collection. The auction will feature some real stand out pieces such as Lot 81, Marlon Brando’s personal silver plate Ronson cigarette lighter with engraved initials and original presentation box. Not only does the item come with enviable provenance but it is also in excellent condition. Brando has always proved himself to be a steady name in autograph collecting and this item will lend any collection both exclusivity and desirability. Lot 271 will grab the attention of US collectors in particular: a stunning colour, posed photograph of Barack and Michelle Obama in a romantic embrace, signed in ink by the couple. As the first black president of the US this signed photo captures a key period in American history, making it a great piece for any collector. Last, but certainly not least in the eyes of collectors worldwide, Lot 311; a scarce signed cover of Newsweek Magazine dated July 28th, 1969. The cover features a hazy, black and white image of Neil Armstrong walking on the Moon. This lot is particularly sought-after by collectors as signed images of Armstrong taken on the Moon are especially rare; most signed photographs show Armstrong either before or after the historic Apollo 11 flight but not this Fraser’s lot! With the added interest caused by the 40th Anniversary events celebrating the first manned mission to land on the Moon this lot is sure to take off!

...Classic

FRIDAY 8 2 AUGUST 6:00 PM

Classics of all kinds were available at this Classic Car Auction. Even if you were not there to buy, the trip was worth the show. than just cars to bid on. This auction also included a great collection of classic car and petrol memorabilia. If you like old gas station cola machines, advertising benches, road signs, or classic car casts, then this was the place to be. One of the featured items was a driveway bell. For those not old enough to remember, this is a rubber hose, connected to a bell which alerted the employees at the “full service gas stations,” (you can get a full definition of that in Wikipedia), to rush to your vehicle and politely ask if you wanted to fill it up or check the oil and fluids under the hood. Those were the days. If you are interested in getting into this hobby or consigning your Classic car to the auction you can contact either Eddie Greer at 615-417-9894 or Melanie Eifling at 615-584-3118. You can also contact Bill Colson Auction and Realty at 615292-6619 for more details. You can view a video of the last Classic Car Auction at our web site. Go to: www.americasauctionreport.com and follow the video link. So buckle up, and we will try to keep you in the fast lane for more information about this very exciting event coming up in October. Honk if You Love Classic Cars!
