MISSION STATEMENT The Department of Parks and Recreation seeks to maintain a clean and safe park system that provides the public with a greener city and a wide variety of recreational opportunities. The City's municipal park system of more than 26,000 acres makes available to the public 622 ball fields, 529 tennis courts, 45 indoor and outdoor swimming pools, 29 recreation centers, 14 miles of beaches, 13 golf courses, 6 ice rinks, 4 major stadiums, and 3 zoos. The Agency is also responsible for approximately 700,000 street trees and 2 million park trees.
