AFFIDAVIT OF COMPLAINT

To Officer J. Mize Sheriff Office Stephens County, Martin, GA Dear Officer J. Mize, My name is Maria Lourdes Andres. Reyes, Filipina, an older and full blood sister of Maria Asuncion Andres Gautreaux, now deceased who allegedly committed suicide on Nov 11, 2012 as reported to me by her husband, Carl Gautreaux. I am writing this statement to register my very strong doubt on the report of Mr. Gautreaux. I do not believe that my sister had committed suicide for the following reasons: 1. My sister did not leave any suicide note in writing or note sent to me or any of her close friends either through phone text, email, skype, twitter or facebook. Especially to me as her only sister with whom she was in daily communication through skype or mobile phone. 2. She loved her daughters so much that if she really planned or wanted to commit suicide she would have at least asked me or

her very close friends to take care of them for her when she is gone. But she did not. She had verbally asked Maricar Cope to look after children if anything would happen to her. But this could mean if she would die in an accident or be killed by someone like her abusive husband and in fact she felt that way and was in fear of her life as proven when she called 911 twice within a month before she died. You can check on the record.

4. Maria was in fact very scared of her husband and feared for her life that two weeks before her death she had called twice 911. The first time when she said her husband yelled at her and threatened her and was violent when he took his rifle and began shooting squirrels in the backyars. Second time, when she was afraid when her husband shouted to her “I had enough of you” and left her and her children during the night. You can check your records of 911 calls from Maria Gautreaux during the last week of October and first week of November. 2. She loved her children so very much that when I and my brothers offered to buy her tickets to come to the Philippines she told us she wanted to but could not because

she did not want to leave her two teenage daughters with her husband. 5. Maria’s two teenage daughters had reported to their mother’s friends that their father was around that Sunday morning in the house when the shooting or alleged suicide took place. Here in my country the standard police procedure was to make the husband a suspect and subject him to paraffin test to find out if he has traces of gunpowder and thus could be very near the victim when the shooting took place. As was reported to us no such test was conducted. 6. A week before her death Maria had asked me and my siblings for help regarding her financial difficulties. I sent her $1,000 through Western Union a month earlier and a week before her death we promised to send her $2,000 as soon as possible. Her friends like Helen Hoffman, a nurse working at L.A. had promised to send her financial help. She had no reason to commit suicide due to financial problem as there are relatives and friends who are ready to help her. 7. Maricar Cope, a Filipina, a friend of Maria and married to Charles Cope residents of St Martin reported to me through Skype a week after Maria’s death

that Carl Gautreaux had told her that Maria even had asked him how to use her gun Saturday afternoon or a day before her death or the following Sunday morning. When Maricar Cope asked Carl Gatreaux why he did not keep the gun away from her knowing she is depressed the latter did not answer her. 8. Carl Gatreaux reported to me that my sister Maria was having menopausal depression. If that is true how come he did not exert the effort to have my sister treated or managed by a medical specialist. If he would counter he had no money or means for it but how come he would often get mad or angry at my sister on very trivial causes as reported to me by my sister weeks before she died. In fact I myself had heard him yelled and growled at my sister several times when me and her were talking through skype. Maria’s friend Nancy Lee reported to me that she herself heard Carl Gautreaux scolding and yelling at Maria while they were talking over the phone. In fact, Anne Villamor, another friend of Maria had recorded the altercation between Maria and her husband. 9. It was reported

of death of Maria and a court clearance. 9. Friends of my sister had reported to me that the land which Maria and her husband are occupying is in the name of my sister and that she got it through loan with the bank under her name. My sister told me that they had accumulated over $12,000 arrears in payment with the bank over that land. She said that her husband did not want to lose this property and is opposed to selling it. It is a standard policy by the lending bank to cover the loan with a mortgage redemption insurance or m.r.i. This is also a standard practice by the bank here in the Philippines. This insurance states that if anything happens to the borrower, either through death or incapacity the remaining balance including arrears and penalties would have been automatically paid. Carl Gautreaux must have been very much aware of this. 10. It was reported to me by Maricar Cope that Maria owned some stocks shares worth over $10,000 that Maria told her that her husband had been pressing her to sell it but she refused. Maricar Cope reported to me just last week that Carl Gautreaux had been trying to sell it but could not as he had first to get a certificate

11. I have strong reasons to believe that Carl Gautreaux had been for months subjecting my sister to cruel verbal abuses and bullying to push her to the edge of suicide. It was September that my sister wrote to me in my Facebook account that “Carl had been super difficult to live with.” She kept on telling me through our phone and skype talks that her husband had been verbally and emotionally abusing and bullying her and that he would flare up and be enraged at the slightest provocation. My sister told me repeatedly that her husband had deliberately and maliciously used and controlled their two daughters to turn against her and they with their father had left her out of their activities and made her feel she they did not her. 12. But when my sister remained sane and strong and alive despite her husband’s abuses he allowed my sister to have access to her gun and that fateful Sunday morning, Nov 11, Carl Gautreaux sensing that my sister would not shoot herself he put on his gloves, took the gun and shoved it under her chin, pulled the trigger and reported to the police that it was suicide. The police officers from the Stephens county sheriff who

must know Carl Gautreaux agreed readily that it was suicide. My sister told me weeks before her death that her husband told her that he had been offered to work as county sheriff but turned it down because the pay he said 5was a measly $400 a week, not enough to pay for his debts. 13. I hold on to this belief because a paraffin test was not administered to Carl Gautreaux to rule out that he was not near the gun shot. Maricar Cope reported to me that when she and her husband visited Maria’s house she saw Carl Gautreaux cleaning the blood stains of Maria and that the gun was on top of Maria’s bed and not on the bath tub as earlier reported. 14. My sister was a deeply spiritual woman who loved God and was much involved in her church, the Hill Street Church. She sings well and had sang solos in church services. Her pastor during the memorial service last Dec 6 held at the church had very good words for her as well as the members who knew her. In fact she was baptized in the Seventh Day Adventist when she was only 15 years old and in her twenties had joined the Baptist churches in Manila. In 1991 she had Carl Gautreaux for a penpal. A year later Carl Gautreaux came to

Manila to meet her and proposed to her. In 1992 they got married in Manila. Maria was 32 years old and Carl Gautreaux was ten years older. Maria told me that he decided on him among her two other Amrican suitors because he said he was a Baptist Christian and he want to raise a Christian family with her. She was not told by Carl Gautreaux that he was divorced, that he was blacklisted for a credit card the reason he had none, he had only a high school level education, a small time labor contractor putting bricks on fireplaces and that he could only afford to house her in a trailer home and he was already 42 years old then. My sister on the other hand, ten years junior had earned a bachelor’s degree in mass communication major in broadcast media from the country’s rated number one university and a premier state university, the University of the Philippines in Diliman. 15. My sister told me that she had been verbally abused and bullied by her husband My sister is weighs just 89 pounds and very frail looking weeks before her death while Carl Gautreaux, ten years older must have weighed over 180 lbs of heavy built and muscular. It is no wonder my sister feared him and

was very much scared of him so much so that she had called 911 twice within 3 weeks before her death.
