What Time Is It? A summary of the overtime “final” ruling – Room 3209 Presented by: Daniella Pierre, Equity Commission, Chair Miami Dade College

Regardless of the industry or workplace setting, overtime pay provisions are a nationwide topic widely discussed. And as you know, back in December 2016, the over-time final rule by the Obama administration was set to change revising the threshold from $23,660 to $47,476. Because of this, many employers including those within the Florida College System adopted the ruling; however, its implementation varied and may have impacted some employees. In this workshop, attendees will be presented a timeline with reference to the overtime “final” ruling, and observe where we are today, as well as hear from other member-institutions how they have adjusted to the new ruling. The Membership Connection – Room 1261 Presented by: Ms. Wanda Curtiss, Statewide AFC Membership Development Committee Co-Chair, Miami Dade College

Connecting the Dots between College Facilities and Student Success - Room 3209 Presented by: John Barbieri, Indian River State College and Govindah Ramnarian, South Florida State College

The focus of this presentation is to examine the impact college facilities have on student success. This study focuses on how college environment impacts student behavior. The base theory for this research is Kurt Lewin’s field theory (Lewin 1936). Current literature reveals that college facilities have a significant impact on student recruitment and retention decisions (Reynolds 2007). A multisite appraisal by nontraditional students revealed that college academic facilities were a major factor associated with retention (Marianne 2007). Our study is conducted in a multi-college setting and interviews with current students are the main source of the primary research. Included in this study are reviews of secondary data from graduate student surveys and other published

literature. This study focuses on functional areas of a facility, such as: design, serviceability, safety, and the general condition of the buildings and grounds. Using Video and Screen Capturing Tools for Learning and Professional Development – Room 1261 Presented by: Michael Pelitera, Chair, IEPPD Commission, Instructional Technology Trainer, Virtual Campus IRSC and Paul Lefavi, Chair, Technology Commission, Director Video Services, IRSC

Also discussed will be tips and tricks for making your videos more engaging and successful.

Campus Tours Miami Animation & Gaming International Complex (MAGIC) MAGIC is the new 9,000 square feet, state-of-the-art facility designed to mirror a working animation studio like industry-blockbuster, Pixar. The entire facility is wireless and committed to achieving a nearly paperless status. Visitors enter the MAGIC Studio through The Gallery, a space that features student work in animation and video games. Visitors will have the opportunity to play demo video games created by students. The Open Lab consists of a large multi-purpose space dominated by The Brain, a gigantic screen that is connected to every workstation and room in the complex. Work can be shared and viewed by others at any time through The Brain. This space features 30 workstations, each with a Cintiq HD 2200 Touch. Students have access to a creative tool set that

allows them to draw characters, convert the work to vector art, and work with 3D animation, compositing, modeling, simulation, and rendering.

The Lynn and Louis Wolfson Florida Moving Image Archives The Lynn and Louis Wolfson II Florida Moving Image Archives also known as “Wolfson Archives,” is a one-of-a-kind collection of film, video, audio, and documents related to Florida with a particular emphasis on television news and home movies from the Twentieth Century.
