[email protected] Background: Salvia hispanica seed, the ancient grain is becoming enormously popular as a wonder food to treat a variety of diseases. It claims to have the highest source of omega 3 fatty acid and linoleic acids. Chia seed is a potential source of antioxidants with the presence of chlorogenic acid, caffeic acid, myricetin, quercetin, and kaempferol which are believed to have cardiac, hepatic protective effects, anti-ageing, anti-carcinogenic characteristics and antidiabetic activity and anti-inflammatory. This work aims to explore the antiasthmatic activity activitiy which has not been proved yet. Objective: To evaluate the anti-inflammatory and anti-asthmatic activity of Salvia hispanica seed oil using protein denaturation and goat tracheal chain preparation methods. Material and Methods: Salvia hispanica was purchased and aliquots were prepared in various concentrations. The phytochemical screening and IR Spectroscopy was performed and identified the phytoconstitutents. The in-vitro anti- inflammatory activity was performed by protein denaturation method and the absorbance was observed using spectrophotometer. The in-vitro anti-asthmatic assay was performed using Histamine induced goat tracheal chain in different concentration of oil. Results and Discussion: The study revealed the presence of omega 3 fatty acids in Salvia hispanica seed oil. In the present study testing various concentration (10 µg/ml, 50µg/ml, 100 µg/ml) of Salvia hispanica seed oil which inhibited the contractile effect of histamine, thus produce significant bronchodilation. Hence the Salvia hispanica seed oil dose dependently inhibited tracheal strip contraction induced by histamine (100µg/ml).This phytoconstituent has already been proved for immunomodulatory effect. The present investigation will be supportive to the scientific documentation related to in-vitro studies. The in-vitro studies may be helpful to understand the molecular mechanism of asthma and inflammation. Conclusion: Salvia hispanica seed oil is well proved for a better antiasthmatic activity and recommended for further invivo studies.
