A DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN MATHEMATICS – SECONDARY I.

OBJECTIVES Upon the Completion of this lesson, the student should able to;  Solve problems involving adding and subtracting integers  Construct a vertical and horizontal number line  Student will have a determination and patience in learning mathematics

II.

SUBJECT MATTER A. Learning Integers – Addition and Subtraction B. Reference: College Algebra Book for High School C. Materials: White Board or Black Board for Board Work; white board marker or chalk; work sheet. D. Values: Let the student to have Determination and Patience.

III.

PROCEDURE TEACHER’S ACTIVITY

STUDENT’S ACTIVITY

A. Preliminary Activity: -

Good Afternoon Class Let us pray

-

-

Check the attendance

-

B. Motivation/Review - What is our lesson yesterday?

Good Afternoon Ma’am One student will lead the prayer (Our Father…) Student’s will raise their hands once called

One student raises hand - Our lesson yesterday is about integers. - Integer is a set of whole number and it’s opposite.

-

Very good, does anyone can define what integer is?

-

Is zero an integer?

-

Yes it is an integer

-

Can you give an example of integers?

-

All students will give an example of integers.

-

Ok now you what is integers we will have a game, everyone will participate.

-

Everyone will be given a question about integers. Example: write an integer that will represent each situation     

-

    

10 degree above zero. A loss of 100 peso Gain of 10 pounds 12 step forward 25 ft below sea level

Very good class, now we will proceed to our lesson. Get your pen and notebook for our lecture.

+10 -100 +10 +12 -25

-

Everyone will get their materials

C. Presentation -

Does anyone know how to add and subtract numbers?

-

Yes

-

How about adding integers?

-

No one will answer

-

Anyways our lesson for today is about adding and subtracting integers. Does anyone among you know the rule in adding integers?

-

Some student will raise their hands and answer the question If the integers have the same sign just add the integers and copy it’s sign

-

Very well said, how about adding two integers with unlike sign.

-

Any idea class? Any ways these are the rule in adding the two integers having unlike sign:

-

When you are adding two integers with different signs is like subtracting two numbers and you take the sign of the larger.

-

-

No one will answer

-

Will copy the rules.

-

I will give some examples: if we add 12 to -3 the answer will be 9. Why 9, because 12 has a greater value we should change the + into – sign. Another example, if we add +3 to – 5 the answer will be 2.

-

Now it is your time to solve some in the board. (Will give some exercises to answer thru board work.)

-

Now we know how to add integers we will now study how to subtract integers.

-

Here are the rules in subtracting integers.

-

Student will answer in board.

-

One student will raise hand to answer on the board.

1. If the two integers are both in negative sign (-) simply add the integers. Example: -2 – 3 = -5 2. If they have different sign subtract them and copy the sign of the integers that has a greater value. Example: -9 – + 3 = -6 -2 – +5 = +3 -

-

Now let’s try to answer some examples, anyone who wants to answer on the board? That’s the end of our lesson for today; tomorrow we will have a short review about our lesson today.

IV.

EVALUATION Distribute the Work Sheet about the lesson. (Work sheet is attached)

V.

ASSIGNMENT Know the rules of multiplying and dividing integers. Prepare for a short quiz tomorrow about adding and subtracting integers.
