3D Media Workshop In recognitions of the developments of 3D media within the classroom the Visual Arts and Design Educators’ Association has arrange a number of workshops to assist teachers in their classroom delivery. The 3D workshops will present a range of approaches to consider when exploring the multitude of 3D media and practical programs that will support teachers in extending their use of sculptural based materials in the Visual Arts classroom. The workshops presenters have been selected on the basis of their extensive experience in the delivery of 3 D media within the classroom. The size of the workshop class is limited to 10 attendees to ensure an optimal educational experience. Resources such as programs and specific work samples produced on the day will be given to attendees. The workshops are design to provide ‘hands on’ experience and a supportive environment that identifies the needs of teachers. Presenters will assist in the guiding teachers to develop effective strategies and projects in 3D media.

Courses on offer in the 3D Media Workshops available are: Casting using plaster, alginate and silicone Hand Building with Clay Embossing using Sardine cans and sheet aluminium
Craig Malyon (MLC Burwood) . This workshop seeks to provide participants with knowledge of differing approaches to casting and mould making. Participants will make their own slip cast mould to take with them. They will examine and work with the silicone and alginate moulds from a live model and develop an understanding of the lost wax technique. Participants will be provided with program notes for stage 5 and 6 students.
Hand Building with Clay Kim Isagro-Attwood (Homebush Boys High) This workshop introduces the participants to the use clay in terms of applying different hand building techniques. Kim will demonstrate how his art making is aligned to specific programming for stage 4 and 5 students
Embossing using Sardine cans and sheet aluminium Melinda Hodges (International Grammar) In this workshop participants will undertake a structural and subjective exploration of found object assemblage inspired by the work of Australian contemporary artist Fiona Hall. Using sheet aluminium and tin you will emboss using your chosen design. Participants are asked to bring a washed sardine can.
