Persecuted church series week 2 Look Inward: Am I living like a stranger in this world? The goal of the series is to better understand what it means to have authentic faith. Hook Have you ever been somewhere and felt like a complete stranger? Have you ever moved to a new town or joined a group where you didnʼt know anyone? Peter urges us to live as strangers in this world? What does that mean and why should we do it? Book 1 Peter 1:17 “Since you call on a Father who judges each man's work impartially, live your lives as strangers here in reverent fear.” 1. God will be our judge. Rom 14:12, 1 cor 3:10-13, 2 cor 5:10 a. This implies that we will face some type of judgement for our lives 1 john 4:17 b. The judge will be impartial. c. Judgement begins in the family of God (4:17) 2. Be in reverent fear. b. God is a holy and might God. 1 peter 1:12 c. God has great power and is to be respected beyond anyone or anything else. d. It is a fear of offending. e. When we fear God, other fears are forgotten or not realized. Such as the fear of not pleasing friends. 3. Live as strangers. c. Do not become comfortable with the ways of the world. 1 john 2:15-17 d. Do not entertain the evil desires of our flesh e. Our citizenship is in heaven. Phil 3:20 4. It will be a battle. d. Satan is a fierce enemy 1 peter 5:8 e. Our flesh does not desire the things of God Gal 5:17 f. Live by the Spirit and be free from condemnation Rom 8:1-4 Look What does it look like to be a stranger? Imagine that you are trying to please God. Can we please him by doing things that do not please the Spirit within us? Are there things in our lives that are like boat anchors? Took Spend some time this week evaluating. Am I living like a stranger or like a permanent resident? Am I living to please God?
