BUS TRAVEL Although we refer to all buses that collect students from schools as school buses they actually have very little to do with schools. They are employed by the state government to get students to and from school and as such they are responsible for students from home to the school gate. They determine the rules and what they are willing to accept. If your child’s behavior is unacceptable on the bus then they have the power to determine the punishment and to ban that child for a period of time or even forever. It is their right and the school will not interfere. As much as possible we work in partnership with the bus companies and I might try to reduce the length of the punishment but this is rare. It is a lot of responsibility transporting children; bus drivers and the owners of the company want your child to be safe and so do we! We will not tolerate bad behavior and we will work with the bus company to solve any problems. Don’t take your school problems or your home problems onto the bus. It might be a long walk from your home.

UNIFORM As winter approaches I would like to remind families about our uniform expectations and the rules around students who are out of uniform. Bright coloured hooded jumpers are not part of our school uniform; students who are not in full uniform will be confined to the canteen courtyard at break times. This measure has been put in place to ensure easy identification of Reece students. This improves the safety of students from external members of the community who at times pass through the Reece grounds. The winter uniform is available from the school office from 8.00am – 4.50pm week days. Girls – winter skirt, navy jumper, blue shirt Boys- grey pants, navy rugby jumper, school spray jacket, blue shirts SCHOOL CANTEEN All students will need to use their student ID cards to purchases items from the canteen after Easter. This involves students putting their money on their cards before school or at recess time in the canteen. Money needs to be put on one block before it can be used. (money put on before school can be used at recess, money put on at recess can be used at lunch) - So No money can be used at the canteen after Easter.

NOTIFICATION OF STUDENT ABSENCES USING MOBILE PHONE TEXT MESSAGES From 20 April 2009, parents/guardians or caregivers will be informed by mobile phone message – Short Message Service (SMS) each time their child is away from school and school has no explanation for the absence. An SMS text message will be automatically sent to the mobile phones of parents explaining that our records show that your child is absent from school. At Reece High School student attendance and student safety is a high priority. We know that students who attend regularly are more likely to be successful and safe at school. To improve our attendance and safety procedures, we will be informing parents/caregivers about any unexcused absences for their child. The school expects parents/caregivers to contact the school in advance if they know their child is to be absent or late.
