TMD Strategic Vision • A dexterous organization meeting the wide variety of critical users’ meteorological and related information requirements for continuously improved and sustainable economic, social, and environmental development.

TMD Mission • 1. To efficiently and accurately produce meteorological and related warnings and forecasts nationwide when decision and policy makers need them to reduce impacts of natural disasters • 2. To use the most technologically advanced information services and methods to increase the public’s natural disaster awareness and to have them correctly respond when a natural disaster occurs to save lives and minimize impacts

• 3. To be the source of national meteorological and related information and services to various types of users to help them complete their missions • 4. To enhance international cooperation in environmental issues

Regional Training Course in Agricultural Meteorology : The Agrometeorology of Natural Disasters and Extreme Climatic Events in South East Asia (10 – 21 March 2008)

Regional Events hosted by TMD during fiscal year 2007 (1 Oct 2006 - 30 Sep 2007 ) • WMO CLIPS Focal Points Training Workshop for Regional Association II (Eastern Part), Bangkok, 15 – 27 January 2007, co-organized by WMO, participated by 25 participants from B ahrain, Japan, China, Vietnam, Myanmar, Laos, Mongolia, Ho ng Kong, Republic of Korea, and lecturers from Australia, Fra nce, India, and USA. • Integrated Workshop on Social-economic Impacts of Extreme Typhoon related Events, Bangkok, 10 -14 September 2007, co-hosted by UNESCAP in cooperation with WMO, TCS, participated by 75 participants from Typhoon Committee member country

Postgraduate International Training Course on Application of Meteorology in Agriculture and Water Management), TMD Headquarters, Bangkok, 12 – 23 March 2007, in cooperatio n with Israel Embassy in Bangkok, RMTC Israel, and MASHAV (Ministry of Foreign Affai rs of Israel), participated by 43 participants from agricultural-related government and privat e agencies in Thailand. Seminar on Cloud-Chemistry Model Application at TMD Headquarters, Bangkok, 13 – 15 June 2007, in cooperation with Dr. Vlado Spiridonov, Macedonia Meteorological Servi ce, participated by 40 meteorologists of TMD. Training Course on Application of Integrated Aeronautical Meteorological Data for Aviation, Bureau of Meteorology for Transportation of TMD, Bangkok, 20 – 26 July 2007, in cooperation with Hong Kong Observatory, participated by 50 staff from TMD. Training Seminar on Introduction to the Deep-ocean Assessment and Reporting of Tsunamis (DART) Tsunameter at TMD Headquarters, Bangkok, 27-29 August 2007, co-or ganized by NOAA, participated by 26 operational staff from tsunami-related government an d private agencies in Thailand, such as TMD, AIT, ADPC, SEAFDEC and NDWC. Training Seminar on Hydrological Forecast and Flood Warning System at TMD Headquarters, Bangkok, 27-31 August 2007, in cooperation with Dr. Vlado Spiridonov, Ma cedonia Meteorological Service, participated by 20 meteorologists from TMD.

WMO-IOC Workshop on the GTS for Effective Exchange of Tsunami Warnings, Related Information and other Warnings in th e Indian Ocean. :Bangkok, 18 – 20 December 2007, in cooperation with WMO and NOAA, participated by 26 participants from 17 countries effe cted by tsunamis and 10 resource persons from WMO, Australia, Japan, USA, Germany, Belgium and France.
