According to Darren Criss, who brings Andrew back to life onscreen in American Crime Story, the 27-yearold serial killer’s story “is a very dark and twisted little tale that a lot of people don’t know about.” But a Star investigation tracing the final hours of Versace’s life uncovered spine-tingling new details of how Andrew sized up his

John Spence, who worked with Eric and Gwen at a Dairy Queen in Anaheim, Calif., took on the role of lead vocalist. The group quickly gained a following,

On Dec. 21, 1987, the 18-year-old put a pistol to his head and shot himself in a deserted parking lot, just days before No Doubt was set to play a gig at the famed Roxy in L.A., which record execs were expected to attend. NO TURNING BACK Shaken to the core, Gwen and her bandmates somehow managed to do the show — but announced it would be their final performance. “Her grief was just so raw, and she was really struggling to pick up the pieces,” the source says. “But eventually, everyone decided to keep going, because they believed that’s what John would have wanted.” Still, Eric had to convince his little sister she had the talent to fill John’s shoes. Gwen fronted the band for six years before realizing she wanted to start writing songs based on her life experiences — and once she did, No Doubt took off. Their aptly titled 1995 breakthrough album, Tragic Kingdom, was the first for which she penned many of the lyrics. After launching

In a bombshell exclusive interview with O.J.’s former bail bondsman, Star has learned that his eldest son, Jason, may have been at the heart of Nicole and Ron’s senseless slayings. Before serving time for an unrelated botched robbery in 2007 — which put him behind bars for nine years until his release last October — the Juice drowned his sorrows in shots of rum while staying overnight at the home of bail bondsman Miguel Pereira. WASTED WHISPERS Regarding the night Ron and Nicole were stabbed to death outside her condominium in Brentwood, Calif., Miguel recalls O.J. saying: “Things that happened that day just should not have happened. Things got out of control.” According to Miguel, it all started over a scrapped surprise party that Jason planned at Jackson’s, the West Hollywood restaurant where he worked in 1994. O.J. allegedly explained that when Jason’s party plans were put on hold, Jason called his father to tell him he was “marching over” to Nicole’s to confront her. About what, and how she factored into the defunct birthday party, remains unclear. O.J. did apparently say that, in an effort to defuse the brewing fiasco between Jason and Nicole, he darted to her house. But once Ron got involved, things got “out of hand,” O.J. said. “Ron did something toward O.J. and his son lost it,” Miguel tells Star. “And that’s where it all went badly. TAKE A PAGE OUT OF THE TOP CHEF JUDGE’S PLAYBOOK, BRINGING IT HOME: FAVORITE RECIPES FROM A LIFE OF ADVENTUROUS EATING. DIRECTIONS

Nonstick cooking spray 3 lb. chicken wings, tips removed, drumettes and flats separated 1 tsp. ground ginger 1/8 tsp. cayenne pepper ½ tsp. freshly ground black pepper 2 tsp. chili powder, divided Kosher salt 2 tbsp. plus 1½ tsp. canola oil, divided 2 large limes 3 garlic cloves, finely chopped 2 tbsp. grated peeled fresh ginger (from a 2-inch knob) 3 tbsp. honey 2 tbsp. reduced-sodium soy sauce 1 lb. shishito or Padrón peppers 62 Star F E B R U A RY

1. Heat the oven to 475°F. Spray a cooling rack with cooking spray, then set it onto a 13 x 18-inch baking sheet. Rinse the wings under cold water and pat dry. 2. In a large bowl, whisk together the ground ginger, cayenne, ground pepper, 1½ tsp. of the chili powder, 2 tsp. salt and 1 tsp. of the oil. Toss the wings in the mixture and coat evenly before arranging them skin-side up on the rack. Roast for 20 minutes, then rotate the pan and reduce the oven temperature to 400°F. Continue roasting until the wings are cooked through and crispy, about 20 to 25 minutes more. 3. Squeeze 1 tbsp. of lime juice into a small bowl and cut the remaining limes into wedges. Set both aside. 4. In a small saucepan, heat 1 tbsp. of oil over medium. Add the garlic and grated ginger and cook until the garlic begins to sizzle, about 30 seconds. Stir in the lime juice, honey, soy sauce, ½ tsp. salt

SERVES 4 and remaining ½ tsp. chili powder. Bring to a simmer and cook for 3 to 4 minutes to slightly reduce and thicken. Set the glaze aside. 5. In a large bowl, toss the peppers, ¼ tsp. salt and remaining oil. In a large skillet over medium-high heat, cook the peppers in two or three batches without stirring for the first 2 minutes, then turning and tossing until blistered, 8 to 10 minutes total. Transfer batches to a large platter. While hot, season generously with salt, then squeeze a wedge or two of lime over the top. 6. Once the wings are cooked, transfer to a mixing bowl, pour the glaze over and toss well to evenly coat. Pile the wings on top of the peppers on the platter. Squeeze the remaining lime wedges over the top and serve.
