Who Can Participate ? The Poster contest is open to all students in grades K-12. Students in public, private or home school.

Why Participate ?

The 2010 Stewardship title "Conservation Habits = Healthy Habitats" must be on your poster. Any media may be used to create a flat or two dimensional effects (paint, marker, crayon, charcoal or other material). Poster size must be between 8.5" x 11" and 22" x 28". Posters should be packaged so they remain flat when sent for judging. All posters must be created by an individual student rather than a team of students.

Poster Evaluations • Posters will be judged by the SWCD staff and board of supervisors. • The posters will be evaluated on the following criteria: conservation message (50%); visual effectiveness (30%); originality (10%); and universal appeal (10%) • Local Winners will be notified during the week of April 19-23, 2010.



All posters except the 1st place winning entries will be returned to the respective schools for display after judging, during the week of April 19-23, 2010.

Local Prize: All participating classes will receive free conservation trees during the week of April 19-23, 2010. The trees will be delivered to the school, however, it will be the responsibility of the school to plant and care for the trees. State Competition: The first place winners in each agebracket will be sent to the State Competition in August. National Competition: State winners will be eligible for NACD National Poster Contest and prizes. Visit www.nacdnet.org

Designing a poster and researching the theme, can give you a voice in your community on important conservation issues. Good posters tell important stories to present and future generations. Posters capture people’s attention with a powerful graphic and inspire with a message to your community.

Information Resources You will want to learn all you can about the importance of habitat in your community and in your backyard. You can find resources at your school or public library, science books, local newspapers, nature centers and from the NACD website www.nacdnet.org Stewardship & Education section. With assistance from your teacher or parents the internet can also provide information on the importance of habitat. Ask your teacher about other possible resources in your community. Also be sure to contact your local conservation district who can direct you to local projects or other resources. There is much to learn about habitat.
