Chief of the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police, Assistant EMS Chief John Moon of the city’s Emergency Medical Services Bureau is determined to Nathan Harper, has a history of 30 years with the Bureau. Chief Harper is responsible for over 1100 recruit and train more minorities in the field of emergency officers and the overall operations of the Bureau of medical response services. DEDICATED TO PRESERVING PITTSBURGH HISTORY More than 20 volunteers of the Young Preservationists Association teamed up with RenewPittsburgh to board and clean up the 7,000 square-foot Victorian house of the National Negro Opera Company, the home of the first black opera company in the United States. The company was started by Homestead native Mary Cardwell Dawson in 1941, and grew to include chapters around the country. First Lady Elanor Roosevelt and Marian Anderson were honorary board chairs. The Young Preservationist Association created the first interactive website of African American historic sites in the southwestern Pennsylvania region. Jones Printing Company began in 1948 by her father Wallace Jones. One of the oldest businesses in the African American community, the company is in the heart of the community on Frankstown Avenue in Homewood. With her business partner Brittee Clay, Ms. Jones has learned all facets of the business and provides customers with a full range of printing services and advertising specialties. Brotha Ash Brotha Ash Productions Ashley G. Woodson always wanted to be in the entertainment business. He and his step brothers danced from early childhool through adolescence with moves like the “Jackson Five”. After high school he joined the military where learned precision and structure and was a 13Bravo-Field Artillerist in the US Army. Today he is his “Brotha Ash” and CEO of Brotha Ash Productions. In 2000, he honed his skills in information sciences at Bidwell Training Center and in 2004 launched a community website site www.brothaashproductions. In addition, he is a reporter for the New Pittsburgh Courier. Alexis Alexander Accezzorize Pittsburgh native Alexis Alexander says she was introduced to the world of fashion at the age of six. Now she is making her own line of unique clothing items, jewelry and accessories. Located in the chic boutique district of Lawrenceville, at 25 years old, she owns and operates what she identifies as a fashion forward, trend-driven store called Accezzorize. Percy Meriwether Landis Photography Percy Meriwether started Landis Photography while pursuing a degree in Busness Management and also took courses in basic photography and dark room techniques. Several years later he turned a hobby into a small business when a colleague asked him to photograph his wedding. After moving to Pittsburgh he expanded his business taking photos for the Pittsburgh Redevelopment Authority the Pittsburgh Courier, until returning to college to earn an MBA. Although he has 20 years of photography experience he continues to pursue learning about new techniques to produce the highest quality of photography for his clients.

Luther J. Sewell & Roxanne N. Sewell LJS Publishing Luther J. Sewell, Jr., founded LJS Publishing 47 years ago, and more recently along with his wife and partner, Roxanne N. Sewell publishes Talk Magazine and Minority Opinion Magazine. Recently the move was made to combine both magazines relegating Talk Magazine to continue expressing a minority opinion and to campaign on behalf of African Americans and other minority communities across Pennsylvania.

Esther L. Bush Urban League of Pittsburgh Inc Esther L. Bush is the President & CEO of the Urban League of Pittsburgh. The Urban League’s 78-member staff implements more than 29 programs reaching and serving more than 32,000 people each year. She is the first woman to have held directorships in the Staten Island and Manhattan branches of the New York Urban League and the first woman president of the Greater Hartford and the Pittsburgh affiliates. Under her leadership the Urban League of Pittsburgh has many accomplishments including programs for home ownership, youth development and adult professional development.

Tim Stevens B-PEP Tim Stevens launched B-PEP, the Black Political Empowerment Project, a non-partisan community collaborative, on May 21, 1986 and serves as Chairperson. He also serves as the co-convener of CAV, along with Valerie Dixon and together they launched the “Black & White Reunion” in 1996, an interracial group of Metropolitan Pittsburgh citizens aimed at building bridges between the races. Tim was elected President of the NAACP Pittsburgh Branch in November 1994, and provided the organization with a decade of leadership. Tim retired from Mayview State Hospital as the Volunteer Coordinator. Tim has been organist at Trinity A.M.E. Church since October 1972.
