Student Development

Student Development modules are designed for Understanding oneself Personal Effectiveness Better Interpersonal Skills Personal Growth

Prioritisation and Goal Setting

Self Awareness You Can Do It! A 5-hour programme based on the DISC behavioural profile to help youth be aware and understand their unique behavioural strengths as well as accept and appreciate themselves and different people around them.

Dare 2 Dream! Based on “Multiple Intelligence” by Howard Gardner, this 5-hour programme is designed to inspire and guide youth to create and own a vision for their lives.

This is an unique opportunity for the youth to learn how to decide between Wants and Needs, between the Urgent and Important, and how to set SMART goals.

ASSERTIVENESS This programme covers topics on what is and is not assertiveness, when to be assertive, and how to express assertiveness in different ways.

Stress Management A programme that leads the youth to identify and recognise their different emotions and areas in their lives that cause stress. The youth then learn steps to handle stress positively, to respond instead of react, and to manage anger.

Managing Relationships A crucial part of this learning is effective communication and adapting to people who behave differently, and showing empathy.

STUDY SKILLS and LEARNING STYLES The programme aims to equip the students with various study skills and techniques to prepare them for their studies. Through a learning style survey, the students will understand the different types of learning styles and apply the method that suits them best.

Volunteer testimonials

“Being part of Trybe gives me an immense sense of identity. I am an international student studying at the University of York in England. Many people think that volunteers give and they give and they give. I am not too sure about others, but I am one volunteer who receives non-stop. I tell the students I meet that I believe in them, and I can only do that because the people in Trybe first believed in me. While others were full of doubt when I made my decision to leave the country, they were behind me. I wear the Trybe T-shirt in York, excitedly share my passion for the youths with my friends there, this amazing organisation and their wonderful work. Sometimes, all you need is someone to believe in you. At Trybe people recognise you for who you are and not judge you for what you do. It might seem cliché that the people at Trybe tell everyone that “You are the best” and you think: ‘Come on, who are you kidding? I’ve only met you for less than an hour and you’re telling me that I am the best and you believe in me? Get a life, stop wasting my school’s money and my time.’ Somehow the burning passion in the staff and volunteers transcends all that. Trybe changes the black ink on a white shirt metaphor. They see that white dot on a black shirt, and they will help your grow that white dot. Just because they believe that you have sufficient white ink in you. My friends wonder where do I get so much energy and zest for life from, well, how can anyone lose steam when you know that you've got a bunch of people rooting for you! Thanks Trybe, you've changed my life. =)” Kuek Lin Undergraduate at the University of York, England

“…I believe the Trybe message isn't just about exclaiming that 'You're the best, You can do it!' but there's much more to it. The Trybe message believes that everyone is able to achieve their goals and dreams in their own ways. Everyone out there is definitely destined for greatness in life. No two people are the same, each and every individual is an exceptional being. I truly believe in that. :) When Trybe first came to my school, I felt that they were a group of outstanding people. Having to hear their message behind the program, I felt that I can play a part in spreading the Trybe message and in a way contribute to the society. With this mindset, I joined as Trybe Youth. I continued to become a volunteer because I felt there are more things that I would like to share with the youths out there and help spread the message of Trybe.” Hafiz Faiz B Hassan Polytechnic Student, Trybe participant-turned-volunteer

“Being in Trybe has been a great time of personal growth for me. It's really humbling to see the many volunteers and the full-time staff who give time to help youth understand their potential and strengths. It is a very exciting thought when I realise all the more that it is not just me, or the facilitators in my class, but a whole group of people that have committed to building up and positively impacting a generation! This is what Trybe is all about to me. It is not about me, or the people that have given up time to do this, but the many youths that have realised their potential and risen above the labels and self-imposed limits because of what we've done.” Howard Tan Trainee Teacher at the National Institute of Education, Singapore
