I WALK TO TOWN @ 3.5 KM PER HOUR AND REST THERE FOR 45 MINUTES AND RIDE BACK @ 7.5 KM PER HOUR. FIND THE DISTANCE OF TOWN, IF TOTAL TIME SPENT IS 6 HOURS & 37 MINUTES?  LET US FIRST CALCULATE AVERAGE SPEED  1/3.5 + 1/7.5 = 11/26.25  ½ * 11/26.25 = 11/ 52.50  AVERAGE SPEED 52.50/11  DISTANCE TRAVELLED (SPEED * TIME) = 52.50/11 * 5.86 = 27.96 OR 28 KM. APPROX.  DISTANCE 28/2 = 14 KM. ANSWER www.afterschoool.tk

A man reaches his office 30 minutes lates, if he walks from his home @ 3 km per hour and reaches 40 minutes early, if he walks @ 4 km per hour. How far is his office from home? 

Let us assume distance = x  X / 3 - X / 4 = 70 / 60  X = 70/60 *12  X = 14 answer
