A cone is divided into 2 parts by drawing aplane through the mid-points of its axis parallel te volumes of the two the base. The ratio of the volume of 2 parts will be? • Let us take height and radius to be 4 each for original cone. The volume will be 64 pi. Now if we cut it. The height & radius of upper cone will be 2 each, thus the volume of the upper cone will be 8pi. The volume of lower cube will be 56 pi. Thus their ratio is 8:56 or 1:7 for upper and lower cone respectively. Ans.

A container contains milk and water in the ratio of 3:2. Total quantity is 50 liters. Ten liters of the solution is removed and replaced by water. What is the milk in final solution, if we do such replacements twice?

• Original milk = 3/5 *50 = 30 • We undertake 2 replacements. These are as under: 4/5 *4/5 * 30 = 16/25*30 = 19 liters approx. ans

In the previous question, if we remove 25 liters of solution and replace it with water in the third instance, what is the milk left in final solution?

• We will solve similarly: • ½*4/5*4/5*30 = 9.6 liters approx. • Now water will be 50-9.6 = 40.4 liters. Ans.

A Garden has area of 2000 Sq. M. and has length and width in ratio of 5:4. A road runs inside garden around perimeter and has area of 344 sq.m. What is the width of the road? • 5x *4x = 2000; x^2 = 100, Length = 50, width = 40. area of garden without roads is : 1656. • (50-x)(40-x) = 1656. 2000-90x+x^2 = 1656; X^2-90X+344 =0; • X^2 -86X – 4X +344 = 0; x = 86 or 4 • We will take the value of X as 4; and verify it as: 46*36 = 1656 • Thus the width of Road is 2 meters (4/2) ans. www.afterschoool.tk

33 untrained labourers can do a work in 15 days of 12 hours each. How many trained workers will do 50% extra work in 11 days of 9 hours each. 2 trained workers are equal to 5 untrained workers.

What is the remainder when 7^187 is divided by 800? • We know that 7^187 is equal to 7^184 * 7^3. • (184 /4 = 46) • 7^4 = 2401 which gives remainder of 1 (2400 is divisible by 800). • So remainder of 7^184 is 1. • 7^3 = 343 thus 343*1 gives final remainder equal to 343 ans.

On a circular track of 1200 meters, Sumit and Hulash are running. Their speeds are 12 & 8 km / p.h. The are running in opposite direction. They started together. When will they meet 2nd time?

• Their combined speed is 20 km. per hour. Converting this speed into M/S we get 20 *5/18 = 5.5 • They will meet second time after covering 2400 meters, so • 2400 / 5.5 = 436 seconds or 7.3 minutes approx.
