Ram had certain no. of tofees. He distributed these in his 3 sons. He gave 4 less than half to A (eldest son), 3 less than ¼th of the remaining to B (2nd son), 2 less than 2/3rd of the remaining to C (3rd son). Now Ram has 18 tofees, how many did he have in the beginning? 112 / 138 / 124 / 142 • (18-2)=16*3 = 48 (after 2nd round) • (48-3)*4/3 = 60 (after 1st round) • (60-4) = 56*2 = 112 Ans. www.afterschoool.tk

The ratio of speed of A & B is 2:3. A takes 10 minutes more than B to reach destination. How much time will A take, If A had walked at double the speed? • Suppose that their speeds are 20 & 30. difference of their speed is 10 km (as per this assumption). If they run 10 KM each, A will take 30 minutes and B will take 20 minutes thus difference is 10 minutes. If A doubles speed – he runs at 40 KM per hour – he will take 10 / 40 *60 = 15 minutes. • Thus answer is 15 minutes. www.afterschoool.tk

A & B can fill a tank in 12 & 16 minutes respectively. We want to fill the tank in 9 minutes. We turn on both the pipes. When should we close pipe B that tank is filled in exact 9 minutes?

• A will fill the tank for 9 minutes – so it will fill: 1/12 *9 = ¾ • B will fill ¼ of tank – thus it will take 16*1/4 = 4 minutes. • After 4 minutes close B. ans. www.afterschoool.tk

What is the unit digit in 2467^153? • 7 has in its powers only 4 possibities as :7, 9,3,1. when the power is divisible by 4, then the unit’s digit is 1, so we divide 153 by 4, we get remainder 1. Thus the last unit’s digit after 152 power is 1 multiplied to 7 will give 7 as the answer. www.afterschoool.tk

Which of the following can be a product of two 3 digit numbers XX3 & XX8? 879689, 454908,991014,none of these.

• 991014 ans.

How many digits will be there when you write from 1 to 100? • We have 1 digit each from 1 to 9 = 9 digits. • We have 2 digit each from 10 to 99 = 2*90 = 180 • We have 3 digits in 100. • Thus we have 9+180+3 digits = 192 digits. www.afterschoool.tk

Simplify 1/[1+1/[1+1/(1+1/3)]] • • • • •

Apply BODMAS First solve last bracket: 4/3 1+3/4 = 7/4 1+4/7 = 11/7 Finally we get 7/11 as answer.

What least number must be subtracted from 1936 so that 9,10,15 will leave same remainder 7 in each case?

• Let us get LCM of 9,10,15, which is 90. multiply 90 so that it is nearest to 1936. for this divide 1936 by 90 = 21 • 90*21 = 1890 now let us add 7 in this. Our desired no. is 1897. The difference of 1936 & 1897 is 39 ans. www.afterschoool.tk

A Gardner had a number of shrubs to plant in row. he tried to plant 5,6,8,12 in each row but couldn’t succeed. He then planted 13 in each row. Rows were equal to columns What is the minimum no. of such shrubs? • 169 ans.

25% of a number is more than 18% of 650 by 19. What is the number? • 18% of 650 = 117 • Add 19 in this = 136 • Multiply 136 by 100/25 = 544 ans.

I donated 5% of my income tax and deposited 20% of the remainder in bank. Now I have 1919 left with me.what is my income?

• Suppose I have 100 in the beginning. 100-5 = 95. • 20% of 95 = 19. now I have 95-19 =76 left out. • =100/76 *1919 = 2525 ans.

Find the value of : 625^1/3 – 135 ^1/3 +40^1/3 • = 5 *5^1/3 – 3*5^1/3 +2*5^1/3 • =4 * 5^1/3 • =4*1.71 = 6.8 approx.

Reduce (3+ 6^1/2)/ [5*3^1/2 – 2* 12^1/2 – 32^1/2 +50] • 3+2.49 /(8.5-7 -5.65 +50) • 5.49 / 45.85 • =.119

In our garden of 10* 20, we want to have an area of 96 sq meter left out for flowers. What can be maximum width of walking path (around the garden) in this garden?

• Total area of garden = 200 let us assume that width of walking path is x/2 • (10-x)(20-x) = 96 • By hit and trial, we get value of x as 4. we can also get this value by equation . • Thus the width of walking path should be 2 (because it is on both sides) ans.

Cost of carpeting a room 15 m. long is Rs. 36. width of Carpet is .75 m. and costs .3 per meter. What is width of room?

• • • • •

Length of carpet used: 36/.3 = 120 Area of carpet = 120 *.75 = 90 Area of room = 90 Width of room is 90 / 15 = 6 m. ans.

Cost of levelling a rectangular garden @1.25 per sq.m. is 900. length is 30 m. what is width?

• Area of levelling is • 900 /1.25 = 720 • Width of room is 720 / 30 = 24 m.

Length of a rectangle is increased by 60%, by what % should the width be decreased so that areas is same? Let us assume that length is X and width is Y. Area is XY. New length is 1.6 X, so area is 1.6XY. New Y should be such which can give us the same value as XY. So it should be Y/1.6. if value of Y is 100, then new value will be 100/1.6 = 62.5, thus there is (10062.5) 37.5 % reduction.
