ASSUMPTION REMARKS 

COL BENITO T DE LEON INF (GSC) PA  Incoming Commander, 104th INF BDE, 1ID, PA  09 September 2008 

  Bismillah Hirahman Niraheem. Assalamu Alaykom Warahmatullahi Wabarakato.  I assume command of the 104th Infantry (Sultan) Brigade humbled by the thoughts knowing  that I succeed an officer whose reputation in the military service is well established, and  that he is one of the senior officers I have looked up to since my cadet years in the  Philippine Military Academy. Moreover, it comes at a time that this brigade is now tasked to  pursue the Lawless MILF Group in Lanao del Norte.   While I am overwhelmed in accepting this great challenge, I am more honored to take his  place and have the opportunity to pursue the mission of the 104th Infantry Brigade. I am  extremely pleased to serve the people here once again and contribute in the pursuit of  peace and stability that would further hasten development in the Province of Lanao del  Norte.  On this occasion then, I thank my superiors for this opportunity and honor particularly the  Army Board of Senior Officers, the Commanding General of the Philippine Army—LT GEN  VICTOR S IBRADO, the AFP Board of Generals chaired by GEN ALEXANDER B YANO, the  Secretary of National Defense—HON GILBERTO TEODORO, and eventually the Commander‐ in‐Chief and President of the Republic of the Philippines for entrusting me the command of  the 104th Infantry Brigade. I express my gratitude as well to the 1st Infantry Division  Commander—MGEN NEHEMIAS G PAJARITO for accepting me to take charge one of his  Tabak Brigades. May I also thank the Outgoing Commander of 104th Infantry Brigade—BGEN  ANTONIO I SUPNET for his warm welcome and in facilitating my smooth assumption. Sir, I  wish you all the best in your next assignment as the Assistant Division Commander of the 7th  Infantry Division. Most especially, I thank the Great Architect of the Universe for His Divine  Blessings that ultimately allowed this opportunity in my career:  for without His Will, how  could this be otherwise.  Given this rare opportunity to face up to the challenges and cope with the expectations of  my superiors and the people of Lanao del Norte, I now commit myself to pursue the mission  of this brigade and at the same time take care of the troops entrusted to me. Along with  this, I bring with me as guide the instructions of higher headquarters. I now therefore issue  the following operational instructions to all my staff officers and to my subordinate  commanders which are deemed significant to the accomplishment of our mission:  First, focus and put to bear all your energies and resources to neutralize the soonest  the Lawless MILF Group that have threatened the peace in Lanao del Norte;  Page 1 of 2 

Second, enhance linkages with our counterparts in all sectors to generate support in  best attaining our mission;  Third, support the thrusts of local government executives which are intended to  further benefit the people we serve;  And lastly, in all your undertakings uphold and protect the rights of the citizenry as  enshrined in our Constitution by following the AFP Rules of Engagement, Human  Rights, and the International Humanitarian Law.  Relatedly, all current policy guidelines and instructions issued by the Outgoing Commander  of 104th Infantry Brigade will remain in effect unless appropriately rescinded. Its review shall  be undertaken to make the necessary adjustments with the recent policy guidance of higher  headquarters.   To this end, I expect the cooperation and support of all the officers, men and women of the  104th Infantry Brigade to best accomplish our assigned tasks. I would also anticipate the  active involvement of all government agencies, local government units, religious and  cultural organizations, business units, and for that matter all sectors of society not only to  assist in securing peace and development in our time for our sakes and our children, but in  building a better future for the coming generations.  With the confidence of my superiors, the spirited condition of the troops, and the  supportive expectations of the community are more than enough inspiration for me to  perform my duties with vigor. And with Divine Blessings, I know we will all succeed in our  noble endeavor.  Mabuhay po tayong lahat. Magandang umaga.
