The subject personal pronouns always go before the verb, but in the interrogative forma s we see later. I pronomi personali soggetto vanno sempre prima del verbo (eccetto nella forma interrogativa che vedremo in seguito): I am a student. He speaks French. I is always in capital letter, even if it is not at the beginning of the sentence. I (io) si scriverà sempre in maiuscola, anche se non è a inizio frase. He came to my house, hut I wasn’t in. Lui venne a casa mia, ma io non c’ero. When I is together with another subject personal pronouns always go after the other pronoun. Quando I si trova con un altro pronome soggetto occupa sempre la seconda posizione: Io e lei abbiamo appena litigato in classe. She and I have just quarrelled in our classroom. For the second person in English we always use you. You corrisponde a tu, voi e Lei (forma di cortesia). In breve, in inglese quando ci rivolgiamo direttamente a un’altra persona useremo sempre you senza fare alcuna distinzione, come avviene in italiano. You must study hard. Tu devi studiare sodo. You should arrive early. Voi dovreste arrivare presto. Mr. White, you are a very kind person. Signor White, Lei è una persona molto gentile. It is used for objects and animals, but when the animal is considered one of the family we use he/she . It is also an impersonal subject. It si riferisce a cosa o animale e viene usato anche come soggetto impersonale. Ma quando l’animale è considerato con affetto it è sostituito da he/she. Where is my book? It is on the table? Do you have a cat? Yes, he is in the kitchen right now.

The third person plurali s always they. They è usato per la terza persona plurale senza distinzione di genero: They are nice girls. Sono delle belle ragazze. They are two friends of mine. Essi sono due amici miei. The complement personal pronouns always go after the verb. They could run the function of direct or indirect complement. The indirect are always preceded by a preposition. I pronomi personali complemento vanno sempre dopo il verbo e possono avere funzione di complemento oggetto o di complemento indiretto, nel qual caso saranno preceduti da una preposizione. Notate che, mentre in italiano essi hanno varie forme e possono stare tanto davanti quanto dietro al verbo, in inglese hanno sempre la stessa forma e possono stare solo dopo il verbo. He phoned me yesterday. Lui mi telefonò ieri. She talked to me. Lei mi parlò.
