OBLIGATIONS
1. “I am the Lord thy God, thou shalt not have any strange gods before Me.”
This commandment forbids idolatry, the worship of false gods and goddesses.
As children of God, we should keep our faith and love for God. We must be committed to one God only.
2. “Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain.”
This commandment tells us that we should avoid blasphemy and profanity.
The faithful are required to honor the name of God. We must respect the sacredness of God’s name.
3. “Remember to keep the Sabbath Day holy.”
We should rest and pray, attend the mass, and refuse to do any kind of unholy work.
4. “Honor thy father and thy mother.”
This commandment tells us that we should not think about work on Sundays for it is the Lord’s Day. We must never disobey our parents.
5. “Thou shall not kill.”
This commandment tells us not to kill as we are in no place to take someone else’s life.
This commandment obliges the faithful to show respect for their parents — as children and adults. We must cherish the gift of life that God has granted to each and one of us.
6. “Thou shall not commit adultery.”
This commandment forbids the actual, physical act of having immoral sexual activity, specifically adultery, which is sex with someone else’s spouse or a spouse cheating on their partner.
We must practice chastity and know that sexual acts are sacred.
7. “Thou shall not steal.”
This commandment forbids the act of taking someone else’s property.
We must learn to respect what is of not ours.
8. “Thou shall not bear false witness against thy neighbor.”
This commandment condemns lying.
We must honor the truth for it is said that God is regarded as the author of all truth.
9. “Thou shall not covet thy neighbor’s wife.”
This commandment forbids the intentional desire and longing for immoral sexuality.
We must keep our thoughts pure.
10. “Thou shall not covet thy neighbor’s goods.”
This commandment forbids the wanting to or taking someone else’s property.
We must learn to be contented and satisfied with own goods. We should also appreciate what is ours.
