NEW VINE CENTRE AT WANCHAI – PROGRAMMING BRIEF (July 2009) TECHNICAL THEATRE PACKAGE (AUDIOVISUAL, STAGE LIGHTING & STAGE MACHINERY) The following is a summary of audiovisual, stage lighting and stage machinery facilities for the new Vine Centre at Wanchai. Project Scope: Provide Acoustical design and technical theatre designs in audiovisual, performance communications, stage lighting, and stage machinery for the 700-seat Main Auditorium at 2/F and Multi-purpose space at 1/F within the New Vine Centre at Wanchai. Technical Theatre design above under Technical Theatre Package (TTP) is based on the needs from space of worship and particular Vine Centre requirements that was discussed on June 29, 2009 as well as basic backstage facilities, light and sound operations, and miscellaneous supporting spaces. Anticipated Functions and Events in the New Vine Centre: Main Auditorium: Primary functions and events in the New Vine Centre are primarily religious services, speech, amplified music, multi-media video presentation and occasional drama performances. Multi-purpose Room: Primary functions and events in the New Vine Centre are similar to the Main Auditorium but in smaller scale and perhaps in classroom style. Video Presentation: High brightness video projection to be used for events that require video presentation. Prime front projection set up to provide an 8m wide by 6m high video image in SD format (4:3); HDTV format (16:9) video images presentation can be achieved within 8m wide x 4.5m high. Projection surface shall occupy two-third of stage back wall comprise of special scenic screen paint. The high brightness video projector to be located at Balcony front with dedicated projection port, noise control chamber and appropriate ventilation. There shall be no dedicated black masking for image projection. Vine Concert: The performance space on stage could accommodate 20 pieces full equipped rock band plus lead singers and chorus. Primarily sound system to be electro-acoustics concert sound system. House (left and right) loudspeakers are suspended from ceiling. In addition, rigging and auxiliary power provisions will be allowed for outside hired concert sound systems. Concert sound loudspeaker arrays to be near either sides of the Church front. Front of house sound mixing location to be located right below Balcony front together with video control and stage lighting operations. Lecture and Seminar: audiovisual presentation technologies are frequently deployed for Lecture and Seminars. On stage, the front/rear projection screen to be used for PC/video projection. The Lecturer could switch and display images originate from their laptop or from other video source equipment or from the Internet. Data / video projection shall accommodate signal input from cross computer platforms, various display resolutions, color standards, and display formats. Camera Capture: Similar to Picture in Picture format, at any corners on the screen, a close up view of the Presenter that captured by a high-resolution camera would be displayed. Dedicated Lecture/Podium to be provided under furniture package and integrate with AV components that to be installed such as microphones, connections for PC display, script light and AV source equipment. Costs: Estimated cost for equipment and installation under Technical Theatre Package (TTP) is HK$5.4~5.9 million. TTP includes audiovisual systems, stage lighting and stage machinery. Auditorium: We understand that dimensions of the stage have not been finalized at this time. Based on tentative stage size in 5.8m deep, Centre line to both stage left and stage right to be 6.8m, a total width of stage house 13.6 meters. Maximum batten trim: 11.6 meters extended; normal - 10 meters; Two numbers of front of house lighting bars to be provided in the size of 12m nearest to the stage and 14m.  Height of the Stage: We normally recommend 1.2m high stage for flat floor theatre seating auditorium due to the fact that when people standing up throughout an event their sightline will not be serious affected. For the New Vine Centre, we understand the Vine wishes more intimate audience and stage relationship, we initially suggesting a 600mm high stage. With reference to suggestion of an extension stage set up from Vine. We will review the frequency of usage and functional requirements for the extension stage followed by our suggestion in mechanical or electrical/automated extension stage installation approach. Ventilation Fan Provision at Stage Overhead The nature of the New Vine Centre does not require the installation of Safety Curtain or drencher system as required in most theatres. However, smoke machine device will be used during Vine band performance which shall require the installation of ventilating fan with rapid air-change capability. Usual requirement to be 40% air change of the total volume on stage.

Motor Gallery: A Motor Galleries is required on Stage Right/or Stage Left with cat ladder access from stage or from the corridor(s) on either side of the main stage. Loading Facilities: Cargo lift will similar sizes to the Vine Centre at Central shall be sufficient for the new Vine Centre at Wanchai. Projection and Light & Sound Control Positions: Preliminary location for video projector is behind the Balcony front wall with dedicated projector cabinet/closet for noise attenuation. Dedicated ventilation for video projector shall also be provided. Both light and sound controls are located at rear of Stall level. Recommended sizes 4.5m wide by 2.5m deep and 400mm raised platform is recommended to improve sightlines from light and sound operators. Workshop and Storage: Storage of foldable theatre seats could make use of the void under the stage or storage near by. There are parts and accessories for light and sound systems such cables, spare lamps, floor stands, foldback audio monitors etc. which shall be properly stored in dedicated storage. Also, minor repair and maintenance may require a small workshop. We recommend a 20sq. m dedicated for above purpose. Dressing rooms: No particular dressing rooms to be assigned for the Main Auditorium. Classroom 1/F to be used as dressing rooms when required. TTP SYSTEMS – DETAIL DESCRIPTIONS: Stage Machinery Stage Overhead Rigging Overhead rigging facility for the new Vine Centre at Wanchai are primarily for general lighting on stage during services and concert lighting during Vine Band performance. We initially propose two dedicated overhead lighting bar for professional lighting rigging. Length of these light battens are 10m long and extendable to 11.5m. Stage Overhead Hanging Points Multiple hanging points are suggestion at stage overhead and dedicated areas between stage and audiences zone. These hanging points shall provide rigging points for production lighting and sound equipment during occasional large-scale events with equipment from a production rental company. Along the grid work of stage overhead rigging points, there shall be cable tray and hangers for proper event cable management. In front of the two lighting bars, two motorized OR fixed installed barrel to be provided for masking purpose. FOH Rigging In addition, two Front of House (FOH) lighting bars for face lights will be provided, one in 12m and the other in 14m. Two permanently installed lighting barrels, will be provided on side walls of the Auditorium for side light rigging.

Electric Drum-winding Drives We suggest all motorized rigging bars driven by drum winding drives that are fixed speed with push button control. Overload sensing device, top and bottom limits settings and Emergency Stop to be provided for operation safety. Stage Drapery There will be no house curtain and cyclorama for the Main Auditorium. Nevertheless, when video projection is not in use, two-third section (OR the entire back wall) can be use as cyclorama back drop for appropriate lighting effect. Theatre Machinery Ancillary Equipment High level working platform, primarily for light focusing are provided.

Stage Lighting Lighting for Performance Stage All overhead onstage circuits to be terminated within all lighting battens (Bar No. OH1, OH2, FOH 1 & FOH 2) and simplify event lighting set up. Dedicated dimming circuit, DMX and non-dim circuits will be provided via flat power cables, cable baskets that hung from above the stage. for temporary floor lights and side light on stage. In addition, these outlets will also be used for DMX controlled smoke machines. Cyclorama Flood Light Although there will be cyclorama in the Main Auditorium, two-third section of the back wall (OR the entire back wall) can be use as cyclorama back drop for appropriate lighting effect. Follow-spot A follow-spot platform shall be provided at rear of Balcony at M/F(3/F) to accommodate one follow-sport or two in future. Production communications device are available for follow-spot operators. Lighting console will be located at technical bench at mid of the Stall Level. Auxiliary Power In addition to 13Amp general utility power, and 16Amp. effects power outlets, there shall be at least one (1) Company Switch (200 Amp. 3-phase 5-wire), at Upstage Right/or Upstage Left corner. Company switch will be useful for production hiring companies that invited for special function and event.

Sound Systems There are three sound systems for the Vine Centre at Wanchai. Main Auditorium sound systems are first class professional audio systems comprise of tri-amp left and right speaker array with 48-channel audio console. Ceiling-suspended loudspeaker arrays to be located on either side of the stage, side fills and floor monitor speakers will be available. House speaker array will be delayed digitally as appropriate. Input lines and submixes will be split to two consoles, one for onstage monitor speakers, one for the main house mix. The facility-wide background music (BGM) system shall obtain output signal from the house mix and distribute to lounges at lower floors. Audio processing and amplifiers for FOH lounges shall locate at FOH mixing position or at appropriate equipment room. Local volume controls are provided at FOH lounge areas. Paging function has yet to identify in various particular zones. Audio systems shall interface with Fire Safety Announcement System when require, request for interfacing is indicated here. House Mixing Position Live sound mixing position located at technical bench at rear of Stall Level. AV source equipment includes, DVD/BD players, media player, audio effects and monitor headphones will be provided at house mixing location. Stage monitor mix position is flexible at side stage at Downstage Right. Sound equipment racks shall be located at FOH mix position. Video Presentation High resolution and high brightness video projector shall provide for data and video presentation during live performance, lecture and seminar events. Capture Camera Dedicated event capture camera will be provided at upper balcony front. Video signal from the capture camera is then distributed to recording studio, lounges and classrooms if deemed necessary. S.I.S. Provision for single language plus floor language simultaneous interpretation system will be allowed. Besides, we would also find out the possibility of localized audio broadcasting via FM radio which could make use of FM receiver function available from mobile phone. Recording Room: Proposed location of the Recording Room is under Balcony seats. AV equipment for Recording Room shall furnish by the Vine. SM&W will advise on signal interfacing and signal distributions among recording studio, Main Auditorium and Multi-purpose room. Signal Distributions There are multiple AV wall boxes with AV sockets, outlet for production communications and dedicated ‘clean’ power socket to be located at Stage Level and FOH mix position. 1/F MULTI-PURPOSE ROOM Stage Facilities: There shall be no dedicated stage location, TTP facilities shall be flexible within the boundary or the Multi-purpose Room. However, it is anticipated that utility connections shall concentrate on either ends of the room. Portable stage units will be furnished by the Vine. Rigging & Suspension: Primarily fixed ceiling grid or dedicated ceiling-mount rigging bars will be used.

Stage Lighting: Portable equipment including dimmer racks will be provided by the Vine.

Audio & Video Systems: Portable AV systems will be provided by the Vine.

Remarks: 1.

Hoisting support steelwork above main stage, FOH and associated structure, technical galleries, railings, cat-ladder and stage flooring shall be provided by others and therefore not included in above estimates.

Electrical installations (power outlets and cable containment) shall be provided by others and therefore not included in above estimates.

Furniture for stage, Interior fitting out for Light-Sound Control Bench and Classrooms; are not included.
