Tim Writes The Anglican Clergy of the West Coast had a wonderful retreat with the Bishop, his wife and team at Hanmer for a couple of nights during the week. What was encouraging was the Bishop's challenge to make sure that as ministers we were making time for God personally and not just encouraging others to do it. Too often Clergy can get trapped by busyness and the fact that they get paid to do the work and can push personal devotions into the background. The danger in doing this of course is that we become dry and stale ourselves and lose the freshness that comes from a regular time with God for ourselves. Personally I read a chapter of the Bible everyday and pray casually throughout the day however I came away from the retreat challenged to expand that time and to do more with it. I also know though that personal devotions can be challenging
for folk. Many of us struggle with individual devotions or with written materials finding them very formal and hard work. It's all about finding a style and method that works for you and I don't mind how you do it, I just want each of us to be doing it. To be engaging with God during the week in some way. Check out the internet or come and have a chat to me about some of the options like Journalling, emailed devotions, audio material and so on that are available to you. PREACHING SEMINAR On Tuesday the 18th at 7pm at Cobden church Mark Chamberlain and Peter Carrell will be presenting a workshop on preaching. This will be a very practical workshop to which I would like all our current preachers and those interested in preaching to attend. There will be lot's of tips and advice. You can come early with your meal to munch with Peter and Mark from 6pm. Lawn Mowing Roster 9th August Eric Holman
