Official Newsletter of Valley High School Key Club

Habitat for… On the very first day of the month, Valley Key Club members volunteered to help Habitat for Humanity, an organization which helps build homes for the less fortunate. Valley Key Club members, Vanessa, Juan, Stephanie, Karl, and Boris took part in events such as painting rooms, picking up debris, as well as street cleaning. Despite the long, hot day these members took time from their summer vacations to assist in the construction of a loving home.

AUGUST 2009

Catching Up With Our Kiwanis! On Wednesday, August 19, Valley Key Club Board members attended a Kiwanis meeting at Marie Calendar’s. This is a perfect way to keep in touch with Kiwanis members. The Key Club members got a chance to meet and socialize with them all. The Key Club guests were treated to a full meal of sandwiches, fries, salad, and banana pie! Mmmm! The meeting consisted of discussions regarding stock market changes effecting the globe and businesses. Visitors from St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Newman Community at

University of Nevada, Las Vegas were there to present opportunities available at UNLV. There are a growing number of Roman Catholics at the University. Because the size of their building is limiting the number of students they can reach out to, a six million dollar capital campaign to fund a chapel and furnishings was set. They ask for volunteers and donations to assist in their campaign. For information regarding volunteering or giving to their capital campaign, contact Mr. David Zeamer at 702-736-0887 or email him at [email protected].

It’s Snowing!? Not exactly, but it’s just as fun.  On Wednesday, August 12, 2009, Key Clubbers from all over the city went to the Fiesta in North Las Vegas and skated their last month of summer off! It was a good way to spend the last days of summer with friends. They all got a chance to socialize and make new friends. Many members attended this exciting gathering. They all had a blast! Some were victims of the slippery ice and fell on their butts! But it was a fun event, nonetheless. 2

Joint DCM A joint DCM was held on Saturday, August 29th at Canyon Springs High School. That day was also the K-Family Supply Drive and Stuffing Party. Kiwanis, Circle K, Aktion, and Key Club got together to stuff backpacks with a variety of school supplies for children who were in need during this academic turndown. The K-Family wanted to assure that students at Child Haven, Shade Tree, West Care, and Safe Nest received proper supplies to start off the new school year.
