Ms. Belotz’s

Yard Beautification On Monday, June 29, 2009, a dedicated group of Key Clubbers arrived at Ms. Belotz house at 9 o’clock in the morning to start sprucing up her home. Among members present were Division 28 North’s LTG Kameron Von Woerkom, Division 28 South’s LTG Phillip Tanlim, Liberty’s advisor Mrs. Wagner, and Regional advisor Mei Mei Wong. Students from Atech, Basic, Mojave, and Valley High School were also present to help clean up. Our greatest accomplishments of the day were organizing the lounge area, trimming the tree that seemed to grow upside down, and moving out over 10 bags of garbage. Despite the 108-degree weather, we stuck it out and managed to clean the entire backyard. - Vanessa Cacho, Secretary

It’s Summer!

What a perfect time to go out, have fun, and, of course, hang out with your friends!  Hot summer days and cool summer nights are perfect for a stroll in the park, picnics on the beach or lake, or a family vacation. What’s a better way to make a lazy summer days productive than doing service events? Patching up a neighbors garden or cleaning up a local park. Reduce global warming week, June 21 – June 27, is a perfect time to plant a tree. Why drive when you can feel the cool breeze while taking long walks around the neighborhood? This means saving gasoline and fewer emissions! So summer doesn’t mean long, lazy days alone when service can be a part of your summer vacation from school too!

Just Dance! On the Sunday of June 7th, the Jewish Family Service Association (JFSA) held a dance-a-thon for high school teenagers and invited all of the high school clubs from around the city. The Palms Hotel & Casino had generously donated the use of Rain Nightclub (including food and drinks, non-alcoholic of course) to teens that helped make a difference. The only requirements to get in were: to raise a minimum of $25 dollars and to dance for three hours. All the proceeds would then go to the JFSA who then would feed the many homeless around Las Vegas. Upon getting there, Valley’s treasurer, Boris Zhang, and myself met up with Coronado’s Key Club. Though only three from Valley, three from Coronado, and one from NWCTA (random) came to this event… The Key Clubbers still brought it and showed up NHS, Student Council and the other clubs that attended! The dancing only began after WE had started breakin’ it down on the dance floor! Seriously, some of us were breaking and the others were doing their own things. Then it was amazing after everything had begun, fire from the ceiling erupted, then foam began to slowly drizzle down and smoke machines started smokin’! I was like WHOA o.O! But besides that awesomeness and the dancing, their food was pretty good too. Mhmmm, the little pizzas were the shizzzz. Then we hit the VIP area thanks to one of Valley’s dedicated members. After three hours of nonstop dancing along with the free food and drinks, and VIP treatment… the dance had pretty much come to a close. We came out of the club feeling gooooooooood about ourselves because we helped out the community and we knew that our money would go to a good cause, though by this time we were pretty much tired and sore. - Nathan Magtoto, Sexytary

Bored at home? Why not spend the day doing community service? Here are just a few ideas: •

Plant a tree. What’s a better way to contribute to Reduce Global Warming Week than to plant a tree for your community? Attend a Walk. A lot of walks are for the sick or needy. What a great way to help out your community while hanging out with friends and getting some exercise! Clean up a park. Some parks become abused and garbage isn’t properly disposed of. Help parks look presentable by gathering some friends together to clean up a neighborhood park.

… and Dance Some More!

Hey Key Clubbers, on June 7, 2009, Palo Verde High School hosted a fundraising dance at the Rain Night Club at the Palms Casino. Many people attended and it was a very enjoyable event. The requirements for entry for this threehour event were to raise at least $25 from sponsors. Those who raised $100 or more were able to enjoy VIP privileges. Aside from a DJ and special effects, food was also provided. Waiters and waitresses carried around pizza and bartenders awaited drink orders. Outside of the dancing area, a chocolate fountain was set up next to candy and fruit, and on the other side was an arrangement of nachos, pretzels, and vegetables. In the dancing area, flashing lights, strobe lights and special effects were non-stop. Smoke, fire, and foam fell from the prop settings above as dancers grooved out their hearts. At the end, a raffle announced winners for gift cards, electronics, and rewards. This was one of the best events to have been hosted after the school year ended. - Boris Zhang, Treasurer
