Universal Design for Learning (UDL): This lesson is great for students to complete on their own as well as in groups. This would be also be a good lesson to have students in smaller groups, to allow them to work on their social skills as well as communicate effectively and create discussions. Students could also feed off of eachother in a positive way by comprehending the book differently. Lesson idea implementation: With the standards in mind, the goal is for students to be able to comprehend what they read in If a Dog Could Blog and then put into paragraph form on the blog. They should also reply to 2 other classmates’ posts to see their different responses and interpretations. The lesson will be introduced by talking about blogging and what the kids think it means, as well as getting the acclimated with the website. There might be a practice blog response that the students do in class together, to ensure they know what their doing before the lesson starts as well as eliminating confusion from day of. The lesson should only take a class period and a half. The teacher should introduce blogging the day before, and then the next day the students should complete the lesson. The final product will be used as a grade for completion and answering all of the questions thoroughly. It will be used to assess if students can follow directions successfully and exceed in the assignment. To extend the lesson to a higher learning level, students should answer the blog independently and just as thoroughly as they did with their group members. This tests if they are confident in their own work or might have relied on their group members to complete the previous assignment. To conclude the lesson, students could choose another book/short story to read and then post a response online. The teacher could also assign future homework assignments allowing students to respond to a blog post. Providing the students feedback would be their grade representation and then I could include comments about what they could do better or have more of in the future. Importance of technology: It’s critical because it creates another way for students to complete homework or classwork assignments without having to keep up with homework worksheets. The project could be Summer 2017_SJB

Classroom Blog and Website Creation Tools completed without the technology but it sort of defeats the purpose of allowing students to see and respond to their peers’ responses. They would lose their classmates interpretations of different books if they did the assignment regularly or writing their response. No other technology would be needed for this assignment. Inspiration (optional): Internet Safety and Student Privacy: Some possible issues would be that students might not have access to computers or tablets at home and that would make it difficult for them to complete the assignment. As far as privacy goes, students would only have access to their specific class and then parents could have access to specific documents that need a password to view. Students would have a link to join my class and that would ensure that they are at the right blog and are not on a site they shouldn’t be at. Reflective Practice: This lesson would provide students a great source to complete assignments. It creates a change in the regular homework assignment on a worksheet and allows students to communicate and respond to fellow classmates.
