To honor outstanding achievem ents in the areas of Costum e Design and Coordination. 1. Overall Costum e Design 2. Individual Costum e Design 3. Overall Costum e Coordination

AW ARD CATEGORY DEFINITIONS: 1. Overall Costum e Design: 10 or fewer costum es used in the production -75% of them m ust be built from an original design. 11 -50 costum es used in the production -50% of them m ust be built from an original design. 50 or m ore costum es used in the production -25% of them m ust be built from an original design. A 2X2" fabric swatch(s) is to be included with the entry 2. Individual Costum e Design: One costum e specifically built for a production from an original design or reproduced/inspired from an existing piece. A 2X2" fabric swatch(s) is to be included with the entry. Colored pictures of the com plete look -shoes, hat, hosiery, accessories. 3. Overall Costum e Coordination Costum es for a production have been gathered from m ore than one source — i.e.: borrowed, rented, pulled from stock, etc. Productions which rent all costum es from the sam e one source or rent “the show” from a professional costum e source are not eligible. There m ust be m ore than one source if the show is not being pulled strictly from the stock of the producing theatre. Productions which do not m eet the percentage requirem ent for “Overall Costum e Design” will fall into this category. SPECIAL NOTE: A specific individual costum e included in a production entered in either “Overall Costum e Design” or “Overall Costum e Coordination” m ay also be entered in the “Individual Costum e Design”. No single production is eligible for all three awards. AW ARDING CRITERIA: W hen distributing awards, the decision-m aking process will include exam ination of the following elem ents. 1. Did the costum er achieve the desired effect — from conception to actual costum e used in perform ance? 2. How did the costum e(s) work within the overall look of the show? Did they fit the overall concept of the show? On-stage, did costum e(s) enhance the overall effect? 3. Did the costum er utilize an apparent color palette to differentiate characters or types? 4. How authentic to the period, season, tim e of day were the costum es and shoes to the play? Craftsm anship is a m ust. The costum e worn by the actors m ust fit and hang properly, being the correct length for the tim e period. As well, the authentic of visible period construction techniques will also be used as a criterion. ELIGIBILITY: 1. The show m ust have been perform ed in an OCTA Mem ber Theatre. 2. A Costum e Designer/Coordinator m ay subm it as m any entries as they want, however he/she MUST be sponsored by an OCTA m em ber theatre and have been produced in the 2008-2009 season. A Costum e Designer can NOT have been paid for his/her position, however, the entry can be built anywhere, including professionally. Altered Pieces: A piece that has been dram atically altered to accom m odate the needs of a show will qualify as an original design if it bears little resem blance to its original form as dem onstrated by before and after photographs.

AN OFFICIAL ENTRY W ILL INCLUDE: 1. The Official Entry Form . 2. Clearly labeled colored photograhs of the actor(s) in costum e — photos should be of the total look (head to toe). Also include group shots, as well as individual exam ples. Please include a picture of costum ed actors on-stage under perform ance conditions. Please, no m ore than three pictures per individual costum e. 3. Photograph(s) of the set without actors — m inim um of one, no m ore than five. It is preferred, but not necessary for the set to appear under show conditions. This will be used as general reference, you do NOT need to provide a picture of the set for every scene that the costum e appears. 4. Copies of Costum e Renderings or Conceptual Representations illustrating the original intent of costum e project. Although these will be returned to you, keep in m ind they will be publicly displayed at conference — if you are concerned about their upkeep, you are strongly encouraged to m ake color copies, if applicable. 5. A copy of the Costum e Plot or Costum e Resource List. A list that includes the total num ber of costum es and indicates which ones were built, which were rented or borrowed etc. and from whom . 6. Copy of Program . If the program does not include a com plete listing of the Designer/Coordinator and their com plete team (building, sewing and running), please include a list with this inform ation. 7. Included on the entry form are several questions which should be answered on a separate page. W e are planning to display the entries in a secured space, as well as exam ples of the designs (if possible), at the State Conference. W inners will be announced at the State Conference - Labor Day weekend. NOTE: If you are planning to display your costum es at the State Conference, you will have an 8’ linear space with a table covered. You are to provide everything else you need. (Your photographs will be given back to you at Conference).
