The Great Thanksgiving for the Easter Season The Lord be with you. And also with you. Lift up your hearts. We lift them up to the Lord. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right to give our thanks and praise. It is right, and a good and joyful thing, always and everywhere to give thanks to you, almighty God, creator of heaven and earth. In ancient days, you created us in your image, and invited us to be reflections of your glory. When we fell short and dimmed the brilliance of your light shining through us, you held our hands and walked with us out of the garden and into all the corners of the earth. When we were afraid to look upon your glory, you came as a quiet traveler, as a burning bush, and as a pillar of light. You called us to be your people and invited us to walk in your ways. Even when we turned away, you continued to walk with us and extended the hand of your steadfast love. In the words of the prophets, you offered your wisdom and your truth. And in the fullness of time, you sent your Son, Jesus Christ, to reveal your grace in the world. Even when we reject and betray your ways, you call us into discipleship. Even when we are blind to Christ’s presence, you walk with us and teach us your ways. On that journey of discipleship, we continue today as we come to your table and rejoice in your presence among us. And so, with your people on earth and all the company of heaven we praise your name and join their unending hymn:

Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might, heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest. Holy are you, and blessed is your salvation and grace Jesus Christ. When you sent Christ to this earth, he walked with us as brother and friend, and invited us to hear your truth and to see your ways. Through Christ’s patient love and unfailing grace, we are invited into your presence, rescued from our sins, and led on your path of righteousness. With Christ’s call in our lives, we are invited into your resurrection community, to proclaim your glory and to reveal the truth of your presence in our world. With joy and gratitude, we break this bread and remember the many times Jesus was revealed to his disciples in the breaking of the bread. In remembrance, we will take and eat this bread and remember the many times Jesus poured out his love and healing power abundantly and lovingly. In remembrance, we will drink from this cup and reflect on your grace, which overflows in our lives. And so, in remembrance of these your mighty acts of love and grace, we offer ourselves in praise and thanksgiving. As your disciples, walking with Christ, we proclaim the mystery of faith. Christ has died; Christ is risen; Christ will come again. Pour out your Holy Spirit on all of us gathered here, that we might be your disciples in the world. Pour out your Holy Spirit on these gifts of bread and wine, that we might be filled with your wisdom and truth. By your Spirit may we be one with Christ, one with each other, and one in ministry to all the world, until Christ comes in final victory, and we feast at his heavenly banquet. Through Jesus Christ, and with the Holy Spirit in your holy Church, all honor and glory is yours, almighty God, now and for ever. Amen.

Bible Reading 1 John 3:16-24 [NRSV] 16

We know love by this, that he laid down his life for us—and we ought to lay down our lives for one another. 17 How does God’s love abide in anyone who has the world’s goods and sees a brother or sister in need and yet refuses help? 18Little children, let us love, not in word or speech, but in truth and action. 19And by this we will know that we are from the truth and will reassure our hearts before him 20

whenever our hearts condemn us; for God is greater than our hearts, and he knows everything. 21Beloved, if our hearts do not condemn us, we have boldness before God; 22and we receive from him whatever we ask, because we obey his commandments and do what pleases him. 23

And this is his commandment, that we should believe in the name of his Son Jesus Christ and love one another, just as he has commanded us. 24All who obey his commandments abide in him, and he abides in them. And by this we know that he abides in us, by the Spirit that he has given us. News from the Kitchen Crew This Wednesday’s dinner will be a prepared meal.
