ABSTRACT
In chapter 1, the researchers pointed out what really is a heat exchanger. Also, the researchers pointed out the two variables in the research which is plate heat exchanger and shell type heat exchanger. The both mentioned type of heat exchangers are the most often used type of heat exchanger in the vessel. The other types of heat exchanger are mainly used in power plant reactors or fuel production companies. In chapter 2, the researchers have given related literature and studies related to variables that has been mentioned before. Illustrations were provided in the latter part in chapter two because mere words would not suffice to describe the operating principles of both heat exchanger. Also, In chapter 2, the six basic types of liquid cooling system were mentioned to emphasize the usage of liquid cooling system and its importance in working with the heat exchanger. Chapter 3 shows what type of procedure are used to gather data for the research. Comparative research is the type of research that is being developed. In this chapter, it has been explained to the readers how the both aforementioned heat exchangers are being compared from its uses, capabilities and efficiency while literature search through the internet and other research as reference is used to gather data. The results, analyses and discussion were placed in chapter 4. The results of the comparison were discussed in the whole chapter 4, not only the results were discussed but also find out which heat exchanger is more efficient and takes up lesser space in the ship. It has been mentioned by one of the instructor of the researchers that plate type heat exchanger is better because it is much easier when it comes in maintenance.
“Reflection” (Prelim, Midterm and Finals)
PRELIM
In prelim I learned more about in auxiliary machinery because we familiarize first all the parts of pumps and we discuss more about the type of pumps which has two types and these are the positive displacement pump and the rotodynamic pump which is the positive displacement pump is a self priming pumps and are normally used as priming device and it consist of one more chambers depending upon the construction , and the chambers are alternatively filled and emptied. While the rotodynamic pumps is in dynamic pressure pump during the pumping action , tangential is imparted which accelerate the fluid normally by rotation of impeller. And that’s all first we talk in prelim.
MIDTERM
In midterm I learned what are the main uses in ships and also we talk about the principle of the centrefugal pump which is centrefugal Is a machine of an empeller. And the liquid directed into the center of the rotating impeller is picked up by the impeller vanes and accelerated to a higher velocity by the rotation of the impeller and discharge by. And we talk about the corrosion which is a natural process which convert a refined metal to a more stable form . such as oxide or hydroxide . it is the gradual destruction of materials . and alo we talk about on how to prevent marine growth and in preventive measures are not taken the marine growth can cause damage to the particular part in the long run. And we unassenble any types of pumps and these are the air driven pump, rotary vane pump, reciprocating piston pump and srew pumps and study the application of that pumps. And that’s all we do in midterm.
FINAL
In Finals we talk about the type of valve that we are using in the ships and what are the principle of the check valve which is Check valves are mechanical valves that permit gases and liquids to flow in only one direction, preventing process flow from reversing. They are classified as one-way directional valves. Fluid flow in the desired direction opens the valve, while backflow forces the valve closed and we dismantle the globe valve which is A Globe valves is a linear motion valve and are primarily designed to stop, start and regulate flow. The disk of a Globe valve can be totally removed from the flowpath or it can completely close the flowpath. ConventionalGlobe valves may be used for isolation and throttling services.and we dismantle the gate valve.A gate valve, also known as a sluice valve, is a valvethat opens by lifting a round or rectangular gate/wedge out of the path of the fluid.and that’s all what we learned in Auxiliary 1/MARE201A.
