(2000-2004) Online editor/producer, ajc.com, (5 years) For the past two years I have been leading the effort to develop online video and multimedia at ajc.com. I initiate, shoot and edit video, sometimes incorporating it into Flash multimedia presentations. I also have used Flash, iMovie and Final Cut to produce audio slideshows. THE ALBUQUERQUE TRIBUNE, Albuquerque, N.M. (1988 - 2000). The Albuquerque Tribune is one of 19 newspapers owned and operated by E.W. Scripps. Web editor, (4 years, 1997 - 2000) http://www.abqtrib.com - I developed The Tribune's Web site and, in 1998, E.W. Scripps promoted me to the Web editor position. I determined the site's content, kept it up to date and was responsible for solving any technical problems. We produced the site using BBEdit, Macromedia's Dreamweaver and Fireworks, Photoshop, some Cold Fusion and digital

design tools such as Adobe Illustrator and Freehand. - Increased traffic to the site by about 7 times (from 17,000 page views to around 190,000 per month) within one year. The current average is around 450,000 page views per month. - Added forums, a search engine, classified advertising, advertising, a listserve and onsite archives. - Partnered with outside affiliates to add weather, health information, a live national sports service and local mortgage rates. - Started a popular high school sports area, which includes daily updates of game scores, schedules and stories. Roving editor (2 years) Also, as an editor for the daily print edition, I did whatever it took to get the newspaper out the newsroom door. I copy edited, slotted or designed pages or newspaper sections on deadline and off. I created informational graphics and edited photographs if necessary. I edited the wires and routinely designed the business section. News editor (5 years) - Managed a paginated copy desk and the annual copy desk budget. - Supervised six to eight editors and two to three freelance editors. - Initiated the use of and directed the purchase of computer equipment and software for the copy desk and trained copy editors in the use of computers and Quark XPress pagination software. - Supervised Pulitzer winning plutonium project. Design editor, (1 year) - Designed and directed the production of advance sections. Determined which stories, photographs, illustrations or graphics would be used in each. - On deadline: Designed about 120 live pages each week including several section fronts. UNIVERSITY OF MISSOURI-COLUMBIA, Columbia, Mo. (1981 - 1988) Assistant director of publications (3 years) Promoted to assistant director from the supervisory position of Coordinator. I started here as a Graphic artist, 1981-'82. - Managed the graphics staff in the design and production of magazines and tabloids. - Provided concept, design and editorial services for 19 schools and colleges as well as for other campus units. - Supervised three to five professional designers. - Initiated the use of and directed the purchase of computer design technology for MU publications. - Supervised the training of designers in the use of this equipment. SATURDAY REVIEW MAGAZINE (1981 - 1983), a national magazine focusing on literature and the arts. Art director, (2 years). Promoted from Graphics editor, Missouri Life, a statewide general interest magazine owned by the same publisher. - Hired photographers and artists located across the U.S., that we employed for each

issue. - Planned and designed magazine layouts, artwork and photographs. - Directed department section designers. - Directed mechanical and production work. - Planned and initiated stories for future issues. PHOTOJOURNALIST (1976-1982). I worked as a full time photojournalist for the University of Missouri, Columbia, Mo. and for Stephens College, Columbia, Mo.
