“Thank you” for your hard work and support in the lead up to and on Steve Irwin Day 2008. We pulled off a sensational day thanks to everyone's commitment and hard work. Patrons had a sensational day and for that you should all feel so very proud. The Marketing team would really like to thank everyone involved in the day - you helped us pull off an awesome day. We would also like to individually thank everyone who assisted with bump in right through to bump out. You should all feel so proud of everything you achieved. Concierge, Keepers, Retail, Customer Service, HR, Entertainment.... we could go on but we'd be here for hours. You all know who you are and we honestly couldn't have pulled it off without the team work from the entire zoo. We would like to thank every department involved who assisted and supported the Marketing team. We really did keep the dream alive and that is all thanks to each and every one of you involved. THANK YOU! You made a difference!!!!! Natalie, Emma, Wayne, Amanda and all the Marketing Team

Onyx the Black Flying Fox Onyx was initially admitted to the Australian Wildlife Hospital on 27 October - he had been found on the ground in Caboolture and was rescued by a wildlife carer. Our vets found that he had swelling over the bridge of his nose and superficial grazes to his right nostril. He was also slightly dehydrated, but this was quickly overcome once he was given oral fluids. Onyx came back to the Hospital this week for a re-check and a fracture on phalange 1 (a finger-like bone) was found. Fortunately the fracture is only slightly displaced so there was no need to repair it. Onyx will stay with his experienced bat carer until he is ready to go to bat kindergarten - then, if all goes well, he will be released into a colony. The Black Flying Fox is the largest species of flying-fox in Australia. Interestingly, they can beat their wings up to 120 times per minute, can fly at 35-40 kilometres per hour and may travel over 50 kilometres from their camp to a feeding area. They often share their camps with other flying-fox species. Call the Australian Wildlife Hospital on 1300 369 652 for all wildlife emergencies.

My name is Sally Hecke and I visited the zoo today with my parents, husband and two small children. After the 11.00am Crocodile show (and after eating lunch – which was excellent by the way) my family and I were looking at some lizards by the Koala enclosure when Terri and another male staff member walked by. Just right next to us, she picked up some rubbish off the ground and put it in the bin. My family and I were so starstruck we just stood there like stunned mullets and didn’t say anything and I have been kicking myself ever since that moment that we didn’t say ‘hi’ or get a photo with her or anything. • We thought her Croc show was fantastic and really funny • I wanted to tell her that my sons just LOVE Bindi’s Jungle Girl show on ABC as well as their favourite Wiggles DVD is the one with Steve and herself and Bindi (when she was young) My son was even singing the ‘crocodile hunger, Steve Irwin’ song in the car on the way to the zoo. • Even though it rained on and off today, we had a great day and we just love how the animals are so looked after and well cared for. Thank you so much, and keep up the good work at the zoo, it’s an amazing place!

Queensland commemorates its 150th birthday next year and in celebration RACQ has taken the lead in launching one of the biggest interstate tourism campaigns, 150 Must-Dos in Queensland. The 150 nominees will be revealed at the launch and the public will be encouraged to vote for their favorite Qld must-do. The voting period will run until 31st January 2009 so people can vote more than once for a single experience, or for many. The more votes Australia Zoo receives, the better our ranked position within the 150 list when the results are announced on Channel Seven in February. WE WANT TO BE NUMBER ONE!!!!!!!!!!!! Voting will be online at: www.150mustdos.com.au Please promote this campaign as much as possible!
