Immanuel and St. Andrew CE Primary School Year 6 Class Bulletin Autumn Term

Dear Parents / Carers, Welcome to Year 6! We have a busy year ahead of us with many challenges to face, however alongside these challenges I will try to make the children’s last year at Immanuel as fun and memorable for them as possible! I have outlined details of this term’s curriculum alongside homework, PE and reading book procedures below. Details regarding trips will follow soon. Topics this term Literacy Children will be completing a transition unit on The Highway man, linked to work done in Year 5 with a focus on persuasive writing, and a unit on journalistic writing, linked to current world affairs. Numeracy Focus on place value and number skills, problem solving and reasoning skills. Science 1st half- Interdependence and Adaptation- In this unit children extend their knowledge of the way in which plants and animals in different habitats depend upon each other and are suited to their environment. 2nd half-Micro-organisms- Through this unit children learn that there are many very small organisms called micro-organisms which feed, grow and reproduce and which may be harmful or beneficial. History/ Geography-On alternate Wednesday afternoons Mrs White shall be taking the class for a combined history/geography unit, to be decided based on the children’s interests. Art-Mrs White shall be delivering an art unit linking the Science unit on habitats with collage skills. PE-Indoor PE-tennis / Outdoor PE- football RE-Prayer and Worship- to compare similarities and differences in types of worship. PSHCE-New beginnings-this theme focuses on developing children’s knowledge, understanding and skills in empathy, self-awareness, social skills and motivation linked to the idea of starting afresh. Useful info Indoor PE will be on Tuesday afternoons. Kit required: trainers, shorts and t-shirt.
Outdoor PE will be on Friday afternoons. Kit required: trainers, shorts and t-shirt, or tracksuit.
Children may bring in and use their own fountain pen for their written work. Blue non-permanent ink (only) may be used. The pen must be clearly labelled. Biros are not allowed.
Please make sure that your child is reading a book either from home or school and that they bring it in daily in their reading bags. Punctuality-it is very disruptive for your child and the class if they come to school late, so please keep up the excellent punctual start you have already made!
