TW brainstorm what “combining” means. When have you heard that? What does that look like? Explain that good authors work hard on sentence fluency by often combining sentences. Why? SW read “Sparky” and WT will identify sentences that can be combined. Does it make the piece more readable? Why, why not?
Tuesday Sentence Combining
TW review
combing sentences. SW practice combing the sentences written on the board. SW rewrite “Sparky” story to improve the quality of sentences by focusing in on sentence combing. SW go into their narrative and find 3 areas where they can sentence combine and will revise.
Wednesday Sentence Combining
TW review sentence combining and will have students focus on prepositions in their Imp. papers section of binder. SW complete Sentence Fluency task as an assessment. Collect and evaluate. Read a Patricia Pollacca book and listen for sentence fluency.
Thursday Identify types of sentences. TW introduce S to the types of sentences: exclamatory interrogative imperative declarative
