Employees of firms nowadays look for more than just a high paying package to stay with the organisation. They require more importantly the following factors: a. Good working culture and environment. b. Periodic and timely appraisal. c. Enriched work profile. d. Adequate responsibility. e. Appropriate platform to showcase their talent. f. Variety at the workplace. In comparison with the above factors, pay is of secondary importance to the employees. This fact is very clearly brought out by the statement "Merely increasing the pay and doling out incentives have only a marginal value as there are many other companies to match your offer." 2. Employees need more than just a hefty pay in their work lives these
days and it is the basic duty of the HR managers to cater this need of the employees. Since these needs are ever changing, it is very important for the HR managers to stay up to date with these requirements. This can be done through any of the following: a. Questionnaires b. Personal interactions c. Optimally frequent grievance redressal meetings etc. Some companies also go in for methods such as out bound training programmes to bring their employees together and inculcate in them a sense of oneness and belonging to the organisation. Inter organisation sporting events also help to serve the same purpose. Thus we see that the ways to cater to the ever-changing needs of employees and prevent attrition are varied.
