ParentAndFamilySupport.com ....Encouraging Each Other to Experience God & Hear His Voice Repost: WORSHIP LESSON 1 WORSHIP IS A CONDUIT FOR THE PRESENCE OF GOD...it is so important for us to praise Jesus. Here are some lessons that can be broken up over a series of sessions. It is a repost and is full of timeless multiple modality activities for kids to help them connect with God. PICK & CHOOSE WHICH ELEMENTS WOULD BE BEST FOR YOUR GROUP

WORSHIP LESSON 1 *Target - Kids & youth 7-14 but can be adapted for an older group. *This lesson is very interactive with lots of audience participation. *Best when done in more than 1 session. *Please contact us http://heloiseridley.com/home-2/contact/ if you this is helpful to you or if you have questions Materials for lesson 1: Printed out of power verse and picture version of Rev 4 (below) to hang, big set of hands from poster board, worship flags (red, purple and blue) or ribbons, paper and art materials, music CD - we enjoyed songs from Kirk Franklin's 2007 album and other fast songs, and CD player. A. Activation This is probably the most important step! Give the group time to worship together with the leader using flags, streamers, ribbons, scarves, banners, instruments......whatever. Fast worship songs that the kids really like are recommended. 2-3

songs are a fair amount of time. We used 2. As you worship, pray and ask God to fill the kids hearts and touch them with His presence. B. Why do we worship God? 1 .The bible encourages us to =) POWER VERSE: (can play a game that the kids say this verse whenever the teacher says "We worship a big God") 1 Chronicles 16:29b-30a (New Living Translation) “Worship the LORD in all His Holy Splendor.” 2. Another reason to worship is because God is awesome… HE IS A REALLY BIG GOD ……… (exercise) We are going to close our eyes and IMAGINE THIS SCENE from the bible or ou can follow along with the printout, it is kinda long but hang in there… I want you to listen closely to what I say to get a picture in your mind WE WILL ATTEMPT TO DRAW THIS FROM THE BIBLE AT THE END OF THIS LESSON AT CRAFT TIME… (This prayer is adapted from the book: "Praying the Bible, by Wesley and Stacey Campbell...and awesome resource. Praying the bible out loud somehow ushers in God's presence in a noticeable way) The Throne in Heaven- Revelation Chapter 4 After this I looked, and there before me was a door standing open in heaven.

And the voice I had first heard speaking to me like a

trumpet

said,

"Come up here, and I will show you what must take place after this." At once I was in the Spirit, and there before me was a throne in heaven with someone sitting on it. And the one who sat there had the appearance of

jasper

and carnelian

.

A rainbow, resembling an emerald, encircled (went around) the throne. Surrounding the throne were twenty-four other thrones, and seated on them were twenty-four elders. They were dressed in white and had crowns of gold

on their heads.

From the throne came flashes of lightning

,rumblings and peals of thunder. Before the throne, seven lamps were blazing. These are the seven spirits of God. Also before the throne there was what looked like a sea of glass, clear as crystal. (v10-11) …the twenty-four elders fall down before him who sits on the throne, and worship him who lives for ever and ever. They lay their crowns before the throne and say: "You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they were created and have their being."

C. What happens when we worship? Have YOU ever been in a sticky situation…what do you usually do? Paul and Silas were in a rough situation , they were doing stuff for God THEN GOT ARRESTED FOR IT …. (exercise) Acts 16:23-26 (kids act out as you read it) Need 2+ guards, Paul, Silas, 2+ Jailers & audience to preach to…. Narrator (teacher) reads: “After they had been severely flogged, (2 guards pretend to arrest them and walk them over to prison area) they were thrown into prison, and the jailer was commanded to guard them carefully. Upon receiving such orders, he put them in the inner cell and fastened their feet in the stocks. (the guards pretend to lock their feet and arms in chains and then stand near the “door” of the prision). "About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God (Paul and Silas raise hands to praise God), and the other prisoners were listening to them. Suddenly there was such a violent earthquake (pretend to shake alot and then be free) that the foundations of the prison were shaken. (guards shake and fall out of the way) At once all the prison doors flew open, and everybody's chains came loose.” (prisoners rejoice) *Instead of complaining they sang & worshiped….GOD THEN RESPONDED AND HELPED

THEM OUT!! One of things that HAPPENS WHEN WE WORSHIP IS .....God helps us when we worship Him & He ENJOYS being with us." D. What Does Worship LOOK like? CLAP & Wave hands (Show large hands) Warriors actually used clapping to scare off the enemy...it was a fighting strategy. We can do the same as we clap to the Lord we are fighting off the devil our enemy. (A volunteer comes up to read the scripture…..and helps lead in a clap pattern for the class to repeat). Psalm 47:1 Come, everyone! Clap your hands! Shout to God with joyful praise! FLAGS Many use flags to worship God...the bible speaks mostly of banners. God seems to enjoy when we make beautiful flags and streamers and ribbons and banners to worship. (show and demonstrate using a flag, ribbon, banner or streamer to worship) The colors of flags can also symbolize different

things...can you guess what these flag colors could represent?? red = blood of Jesus, redemption, atonement, war Purple = royalty, power, majesty, kingdom authority Blue= revelation, Heaven INSTRUMENTS : TAMBOURINE Can read the verse...or .Have several volunteers come up to do a simple tambourine pattern (should be made up in advance) 2 Chronicles 5:13 The trumpeters and singers performed together … (with) trumpets, cymbals, and other instruments, they raised their voices and praised the Lord … At that moment a thick cloud filled the Temple of the Lord. It is really cool to see that God REPONDED TO THEIR PRAYER....with His PRESENCE!! He enjoys being with us....that is a great thing!! E. ART TIME At this point there is an option to continue with the different forms of worship OR move into an art activity (recommended). Now kids we will draw. I will re-read (skim) Revelation 4: 1-11 and I want you to imagine what it would look like....this scripture is from John who God showed many things. Re-read passage passionately...asking God to draw the kids in so they can really imagine it.

You may draw what you wish from this passage OR a picture about worship. Questions? Feel free to contact us http://heloiseridley.com/home-2/contact/ ParentAndFamilySupport.com "...let no man despise thy youth but be thou an example to the believers…” 1 Tim 4:12
