On Saturday, May 16, 2009 The City of Albany and Allied Waste are sponsoring a community wide litter patrol called ―The Big Pickup‖ This is a great opportunity for us as REALTORS® to show our community support. We would like to have a team of volunteers to join the clean-up. Please notify Barb at the Association office 924-9267 or by email,

The Big Pickup: Albany Community Action Day
The City of Albany and Allied Waste are sponsoring a community-wide litter patrol on Saturday, May 16, 2009, coinciding with a neighborhood cleanup, the spring Down by the Riverside stream cleanup, and Allied Waste’s annual Recycling Roundup. The four events together make ―The Big Pickup: Albany Community Action Day.‖ We hope to make this an annual event involving the entire community. The Albany City Council is looking for groups, families, neighbors and individuals to grab trash bags and gloves and organize litter patrols throughout the city that Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to noon. All volunteers are invited to an appreciation lunch when work wraps up at noon. Volunteers are needed for the river and stream cleanup as well as for picking up litter, and we welcome suggestions for other projects that day to improve Albany’s appearance – landscaping a curbside planter strip, planting trees – you tell us what you’d like to do. If you want to form a litter patrol, we’ll provide a map of a part of Albany that needs to be picked up, and deliver trash bags and gloves to the site on the day of the cleanup. Let us know how many volunteers plan to help out so we can have enough supplies ready. We encourage participating groups to promote your good work by wearing shirts or buttons or other items that let passers-by know who you are. Sign up your group for litter patrol with Marilyn Smith at 541-917-7507 or Lynn Hinrichs, 541-917-3208. To help with Down by the Riverside, contact Heather Slocum at 541-791-0058. Let us know by Friday, April 17, 2009, the project you’d like to do and how many people will participate. Thanks for helping to pick up Albany!

HUD UPDATE March 20, 2009 - 5th Edition
Public Policy Quorum Call Welcome to the fifth edition of the Oregon Association of REALTORS® 2009 Quorum Call. Quorum Call will be emailed out to REALTORS® throughout the 2009 Legislative Session to share with members current policy news from the Oregon State Capitol. Specifically, this will focus on legislative issues that directly impact your business and the real estate market. Stopping Private Transfer Taxes on Real Estate Last week, the Oregon REALTORS® pursuit of eliminating private transfer taxes cleared a significant hurdle unanimously passing the House Committee on Consumer Protection. At its most basic elements, the imposition of a private transfer tax allows a third party to collect a fee upon every purchase of a particular property, calculated as a percentage of the sale, far into the future. House Bill 2481, sponsored by Rep. Paul Holvey (D-Eugene), will protect potential buyers from the imposition of a new private transfer tax on the sale of real estate by eliminating the ability to impose private transfer taxes and fees.
HUD Update FHA HIKES LIMITS If you’re a mortgage lender, REALTOR®, homebuyer or homeowner in one of the Northwest’s high-cost housing markets including Portland, Eugene, Corvallis, Vancouver, Salem or Bend, the recently-enacted stimulus package – the American Recovery & Reinvestment Act of 2009 - has something very important to you – higher FHA mortgage insurance limits. The higher limits are in effect for loans for which credit is approved in calendar year 2009 and will remain in effect until December 31, 2009. The higher limits give homebuyers a larger inventory of homes from which to choose and give more homeowners in a volatile market the chance to refinance into, says HUD Secretary Donovan, FHA’s “safe, affordable mortgage products.” To find out if limits in your market have increased, visit http://takeaction.realtoractioncenter.com/ct/Ad v1Jen1cSRy/

Oregon REALTORS® Save Like-Kind (1031) Exchanges
April 21, 2009
In a short period of time, Oregon REALTORS® exerted a tremendous amount of pressure in opposition to House Bill 2696 - close to 6,000 emails were sent to the members of the House of Representatives. This legislation would have caused like-kind (1031) exchanges to become a taxable event in Oregon. As you all know, like -kind (1031) exchanges are integral to the health of the real estate market, and are one of the most fundamental components of real estate investment.

With your help, we successfully stopped House Bill 2696 and saved like-kind (1031) exchanges!
