managing rapid growth with technology Needing a high tech tool to assist a major regional bank’s rapid growth, WallGoldfinger developed a U-shaped table with 11 individually controlled monitor lifts for board meetings and video conferencing. Working with EDM Architects and BBE Office Interiors, WallGoldfinger took the project from “napkin sketch” to installation in just over four months.

INTEGRATING TECHNOLOGY FOR IAC/InterActiveCorp Working with Studios Architecture in the new Frank Gehry designed IAC headquarters, WallGoldfinger created a collection of furniture for the top executives. The showcase piece was this 19’-0” boardroom table with Verona burl, full filled polyester finish and leather work surfaces, plus 16 slide out drawers with hinged monitor screens.

EFFICIENT SIGHT LINES IN DOWNTOWN MANHATTAN Designed by Owen & Mandolfo, this 25’-0” boardroom table creatively addressed the challenges of efficient sight lines by incorporating the monitors and cameras into the modesty panels. The materials are white oak with anigre veneer.

A Grand Reception in the Caribbean WallGoldfinger has worked in some pretty faraway places in the past year: Cairo, San Juan, and, in this case, the Cayman Islands. The project was designed by DDL Studio Ltd. and managed by Vista Development, both located in Georgetown, Grand Cayman. The client, an international financial services company, needed a new boardroom table (not shown) and this unique reception desk. A challenging bit of work due to the tapering elliptical form, the desk features anigre veneer, stainless steel, and a “Bronzino” granite transaction top.

Upscale Functionality in Boston WallGoldfinger does a tremendous amount of work for law firms. Here we show a project in Boston, designed by Visnick & Caulfield, which consists of a multi-function boardroom/conference table and an unusual reception desk. The table features movable sections of stone, framed by stainless steel and wood. These sections can be arranged as shown, used individually, or be linked together, “classroom” style. The wooden center section can be split longitudinally to create side tables or can be removed from the room. The table is constructed from mahogany solids, sapele veneer, stainless steel, and “Absolute Black” granite. The desk utilizes the same woods but has a “Carnis Venato” granite transaction counter.

Like A Rolling Stone Stone is usually not synonymous with mobility but with this project WallGoldfinger again defies convention. These 5’-0” x 5’-0” rolling tables feature lightweight stone tops, each weighing only a third of what a typical ¾”-thick slab would weigh. The tops also tip up so that the tables can be pushed through doorways. In the “down” position, all eight can be locked together to form a 40’-0” boardroom table. Designed by RMJM Hillier in Princeton, New Jersey, this fleet is in service with one of the largest container ship port facility operators on the East Coast.

SmartWood and FSC WallGoldfinger is proud to announce that we are certified to produce furniture made from well-managed forests, as an FSC “Chain of Custody” manufacturer. We worked with SmartWood, a Vermontbased certification provider for the international FSC organization, to set up systems to track certified lumber, veneers and panels from certified vendors through our manufacturing processes. FSC has certified forest managers, timber producers, sawmills, lumber and veneer wholesalers and manufacturers all over the world, to allow customers to choose to use building products, furniture and other items made only from well-managed forests. Its trademark provides international recognition to organizations who support the growth of responsible forest management, and its product label allows consumers worldwide to recognize products supporting growth of responsible forest management. We have been receiving an increasing number of requests for quotes for FSC certified furniture. WallGoldfinger has developed a network of vendors who can supply us with lumber, veneer and panels to meet the FSC criteria.

Hearst Corporation

Interior Design by Gensler It was a privilege to be selected to create the boardroom table for the new Hearst Headquarters in New York City. This 29’-0” table was constructed of fiddleback, quartered and block mottled makore, with a full-filled polyester finish. Communication interface was in the apron, with 12 microphones mounted in the top raceway.

LEED Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design is a program of the US Green Building Council which recognizes buildings and commercial interiors meeting criteria for responsible design. Our vendors can supply FSCcertified wood, MDF panels, plywood and other materials which earn LEED points. The location of our plant within 500 miles of New England and NYC markets also provides LEED points for local manufacturing.

Carbon Offset We are working with Native Energy’s carbon offset program to fight global warming by helping build new renewable energy projects. We are offsetting our yearly business operation and keeping 334 tons of CO2 out of the air. Our financial contributions are helping build a wind system in South Dakota, and a farm methane system in Vermont.

Accounting Firm

Design by Mancini Duffy One of our most interesting challenges this past year was this 31’-0” table incorporating 12 lifting monitors set into walnut and zebrawood, and Argos marble with stainless steel inlay. Twenty-six rotating microphones spin out of the way, and 24 speakers are mounted in the riser.

As communication technology progresses, WallGoldfinger has become expert at integrating the newest advances into our furniture. Lifting monitors, disappearing microphones, and advanced connectivity have all become standard requirements in our furniture. We are proud to feature many of these accomplishments in this 21st edition of our newsletter. We hope you enjoy the year-end poster created by our in-house art department to celebrate some of the furniture we’ve built this past year; our sincere apologies to the Chrysler building and Margaret Bourke-White. We are very proud of our talented employees; you’ll note their many years of experience here at WallGoldfinger. The average employee at WG has at least 9 years of service, and many of us have been here over 20 years. (But even the old ones are still very good natured.) There is a growing interest in producing environmentally responsible furniture. This year WG became FSC certified. We are also interested in producing less carbon. We calculated our carbon footprint and made contributions to renewable energy sources to offset the amount of carbon we produced. At the factory we switched our lighting to a more efficient T8 fluorescent system, saving one-third of our annual electrical energy costs for lighting. We also installed a new dust collector that filters and recycles our heated air, saving a tremendous amount on fuel costs. We hope you enjoy this newsletter; to see more, visit www. wallgoldfinger.com
